FISHING REPORT
• LAKE MEAD -- Late summer and early fall is top-water time for striped bass, although fishing has been slow in recent days.
The Vegas Bay arm has produced small stripers, with boaters having the most success. Anglers with a two-pole stamp might want to fish with anchovies or live shad on one rod while keeping a second rod rigged with top-water hardware close at hand. When a striper boil starts, throw the lure into the boil and hang on.
For largemouth bass, try plastics, buzzbaits or top-water plugs in the shallows.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Boaters have had success for striped bass from Willow Beach downstream to Monkey Hole over the weekend. A 35-inch, 121/2-pound striper hammered an anchovy at Monkey Hole on Sunday. An 11-pounder was caught near the hatchery on a shad imitation.
Rainbow trout could be seen swimming below the fishing pier at Willow Beach, but the bite was very slow. Farther south at Bighorn Cove, the rainbows were more cooperative.
The points north and south of Cottonwood Cove have been productive for shore anglers, who are taking stripers with cut bait.
• URBAN PONDS -- Largemouth bass are cruising the shallows at Floyd Lamb, Lorenzi and Sunset parks. The fish are small but still put up a good fight. Try throwing a buzzbait, tube or rubber worm. Bluegill will take mealworms or pieces of earthworms fished below a small bobber and presented on a small hook.
The Nevada Department of Wildlife will call for a load of catfish to be delivered sometime this week, with one more delivery scheduled for October.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Fishing has picked up in recent days, with anglers catching rainbow trout. The key is getting your bait beyond the weed line. Shore anglers should look for openings in the weeds that will allow them to reach fish working the edge of the weed beds.
Boat anglers or float-tubers might find success by casting toward the weeds or working the area near the aeration bubbles.
A one-fly tournament will be held Saturday. For information, call (775) 962-5103.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Fishing has been good despite low water levels. Some lucky anglers got into the crappie over the weekend and took home a mess of fillets.
