FISHING REPORT
May 8, 2008 - 9:00 pm
• LAKE MEAD -- Anglers are catching stripers and catfish. Shad are moving in and out of the shallows, where they can be netted and used for bait. As a reminder, the legal radius for a shad net is 3 feet. Stripers are taking cut bait, and catfish are hitting night crawlers or stink bait.
Fishing along the beaches is hit and miss.
Anglers in the Overton arm are having good luck with striped bass.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Anglers fishing Willow Beach and downstream as far as Mile Marker 42 are finding slow action for striped and largemouth bass. Shore anglers looking for stocked rainbow trout are having success fishing with PowerBait south of the picnic tables.
Anglers fishing out of Cottonwood Cove are finding fair to good action from shore, as well as from boats.
• LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife plans to stock catfish in ponds at Floyd Lamb, Lorenzi, Sunset and Veterans Memorial parks and Hafen Park in Mesquite this month.
Though the action has slowed considerably, trout are still taking PowerEggs and various fly patterns. Be patient and fish early mornings and late afternoons.
• LAUGHLIN -- Small stripers and catfish are taking bait fished along Casino Row.
Trout fishermen still are catching a few rainbow trout while working the Colorado River from the bridge south.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Small planters are making up the bulk of the catch, although there are bigger rainbow and tiger trout in this Lincoln County water.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Crappie are spawning and taking bait along the south side of the reservoir. Trout fishing is fair.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Anglers are finding typical spring conditions on each of the three main reservoirs: Haymeadow, Cold Springs and Adams McGill. Fishing has been good for 14- to 16-inch rainbow trout, but windy conditions are making things tough at times.
