FISHING REPORT

* TROUT STOCKING -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife will stock rainbow trout in the Colorado River below Hoover Dam beginning Tuesday and will do so every other week until the agency clears the fish from its holding ponds. If the plants work out, the agency will consider making the area a regular stocking site. The area is closed to motorized boats on Sundays and Mondays.

* LAKE MEAD -- Windy conditions slowed fishing. Success has been found in the Vegas Wash area. Catfish have been taking anchovies and night crawlers in the lower basin. There have been reports of shad near the shore.

* LAKE MOHAVE -- Shore anglers have found action for stocked rainbows at Willow Beach. Two 20-pound stripers and a 16-pound striper reportedly were reeled in on AC Plugs near Mile 49. Farther south, anglers have caught catfish with prepared baits.

* LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Large catfish have bent rods, but gusty winds have made things rough on anglers. Anglers looking for rainbow trout are finding success. For catfish, try shrimp, night crawlers or stink baits. For trout, fish in the early morning or evening. Small mayfly patterns, spinners, worms or PowerBait should get bites.

* LAUGHLIN -- Stripers have been taking anchovies along Casino Row and as far south as Harrah's. A few trout are being caught on PowerBait in the same area.

* EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- NDOW has stocked 12,000 rainbow trout this spring. A local angler found success for tiger and rainbow trout last weekend at Eagle Valley. This weekend is the fourth annual fishing derby, with participants trying to catch a tagged fish worth $50,000. Other prizes will be given away in a raffle.

* ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Fishing pressure is low. PowerBait, worms or worms combined with a mini-marshmallow have been productive. Largemouth bass and crappie will become more active as temperatures warm.

* KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Anglers have enjoyed action for rainbow trout in the 14- to 16-inch class. They also are seeing a few largemouth bass. Shore access is generally limited to the dams, but fishing can be good with PowerBait, spinners or worms.

* ELY AREA -- The bite has been slow at the lakes and reservoirs, though anglers have caught fish at Illipah and Cave Lake. Fishing pressure has been light at Comins Lake, but reports are that anglers have been catching pike.
