FISHING REPORT
February 21, 2008 - 10:00 pm
• LAKE MEAD -- Windy conditions kept many anglers away from the lake for much of last week. Those who tried fishing found limited success, though striped bass were taken after the Nevada Department of Wildlife's weekly trout plants. Anglers also have caught stocked rainbows.
In the Las Vegas Bay area, small striped bass still are taking cut bait.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Boat and shoreline fishermen have experienced poor striper fishing near Cottonwood Cove in the past two weeks. Windy weather conditions haven't helped. Anglers report seeing fish on their fish-finders, but they are not biting. Largemouth anglers have had success with jigs in 20 to 40 feet of water.
Fishing also has been slow at Willow Beach and from there to Cottonwood.
• LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Warmer daytime temperatures mean it won't be long before the NDOW trout stocking program is suspended until fall. Until then, now is a good time to get the kids out for a day of fishing. PowerBait or worms fished on a slip-rig should entice bites. Anglers also have been catching trout with chartreuse PowerWorms.
• LAUGHLIN -- The Colorado River has been giving up rainbow trout. Anglers have been catching the fish from the Laughlin Bridge downstream to casino row.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Ice on the reservoir is beginning to melt but still is thick enough for ice fishing and probably will be for a few more weeks. But an unexpected warming trend could change the situation.
Anglers are catching rainbows with PowerBait or worms. One angler took a 15-inch brown trout from the creek below the dam.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- The ice is unsafe for ice fishing.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- The ice is unsafe for ice fishing.
