FISHING REPORT
February 7, 2008 - 10:00 pm
• LAKE MEAD -- Fishing has been slow this week along the beaches and at Hemenway Point. Recent trout plants generated striper action, but nothing fast and furious.
One angler caught nine stripers at B-4 and B-5 roads in a five-day stretch last week. Trout have been hitting baits following plants by the Nevada Department of Wildlife.
Cut bait still is taking small stripers in the Vegas Bay area. A few largemouth and smallmouth bass have been taken near structures in water up to 60 feet deep.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing activity continues to be slow at Willow Beach. Trout and striper anglers have struggled. Boaters have been catching a few largemouth bass between Katherine Landing and the power lines.
• LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- NDOW planted rainbow trout this week in the ponds at Sunset, Floyd Lamb and Lorenzi parks in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City.
Anglers have been reeling in three-fish limits using spinners, white crappie jigs, flies, rainbow PowerBait and PowerBait trout worms.
• LAUGHLIN -- Rainbow trout have been taking PowerBait or worms north of the Riverside Hotel. There is no word on striped bass.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- PowerBait or worms have been catching tiger and rainbow trout beneath the hard water. The fish have been cruising 2 or 3 feet below the ice. Be prepared for winter weather conditions and cold temperatures.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Water levels won't come up until daytime temperatures rise, but anglers have been fishing through the hard water. PowerBait and worms are good choices.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs have been giving up limits of rainbow trout to ice fishermen using rainbow PowerBait with glitter. Worms generally have been productive, too.
The ice is 12 inches thick. Carefully check conditions before getting on the ice.
