FISHING REPORT

• LAKE MEAD -- Striper boils have been seen in the Overton Arm and should provide anglers with top-water action. This activity should spread to the lower basins before long. The Vegas Bay arm continues to produce striped bass, and don't look past Boxcar Cove. Anglers have been using shad and cut bait, but large plugs might be the ticket as boils become more common. For smallies and largemouth bass, fish plastics and crankbaits near structure and brush. Get out on the points for smallmouth, and look in the coves for bucket mouths.

• LAKE MOHAVE -- Action for stocked rainbow trout has been very good at Willow Beach. Shore anglers, float tubers and boaters all have been luring fish. The best fishing has been in the early morning, before the weather gets hot. PowerBait, salmon eggs and an assortment of hardware all have attracted fish. Striped bass ranging from 15-20 inches have bent rods near Willow Beach, as well. Still fishing with anchovies or sardines has been the ticket. A few channel cats also have showed up in the catch, some nearly 2 feet long.

• LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Bluegill, largemouth bass and carp have provided anglers with good fishing at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, as well as the other urban ponds. Floyd Lamb no longer is a state park, but the City of Las Vegas operates it. For bluegill, try mealworms fished below a bobber, but for bass, try a jig, popper or lure. If you're looking for catfish, try stinkbaits, night crawlers or chicken livers, and fish them on the bottom.

• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Fishing activity has slowed at this small reservoir east of Pioche, but anglers are still catching fish. Fish in the early-morning and evening hours, when temperatures cool. Small spinner, worms and PowerBait are generally very productive. An olive-colored Woolly Bugger fished along the tules might produce bites.

• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Fishing for trout and largemouth bass remains good, but rainbow trout get sluggish during the heat of the day. One fly angler reportedly caught trout, bass and crappie all on a Hare's Ear nymph. Fish the weed beds and the deep water along the dam. PowerBait, night crawlers and spinners have all been productive for trout.

• LAUGHLIN -- Anglers have pulled in schooling stripers while drift fishing at night in front of casino row on the Colorado River below Davis Dam.

• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- As the summer goes on, weeds will create difficulty for shore anglers. Use a plastic bubble filled with water to cast your bait beyond the weed beds. PowerBait and night crawlers are generally productive. For bass, work the edges of the reservoirs, where the tules begin. Don't forget to bring a good brand of mosquito repellent.

• ELY AREA -- Fishing has been good at Illipah and Cave Lake. Try hardware, PowerBait or night crawlers. Comins Lake is giving up trout, but the action is very spotty and slow. Anglers are encouraged to remove pike if they catch them while fishing Comins.
