FISHING REPORT

LAKE MEAD -- It's hot, and that means most anglers are coming off the water early in the morning. But those willing to endure the heat have found good action for striped bass.

Most anglers are having success with hardware, some on top of the water and some a little deeper. Anglers using cut bait also have been catching fish, but not as many as those using lures.

The area from Gypsum Wash to Sand Island seems to be the best location. Crawdad and Boxcar coves also can be productive.

In the Overton Arm, anglers generally do well near Stewart's Point.

LAKE MOHAVE -- PowerBait, spinners and spoons have been the ticket for rainbow trout at Willow Beach, where anglers have been reeling in rainbows up to 14 inches long.

Action has been good for anglers fishing from the shoreline and boats. Striped bass fishermen also have been catching fish in the same area, some on hardware and others on swim baits.

In the Cottonwood Cove area, Berkley Powerworms have been catching largemouth bass.

LAUGHLIN -- When boaters go home for the night, stripers become active along casino row on the Colorado River. One angler reportedly caught a 24-inch striper in front of the Edgewater Hotel.

Drift fishing with anchovies has been productive. Large plugs and swim baits should generate a few bites.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Some anglers have been braving the heat and finding success for bluegill, catfish and carp. One family reeled in several carp during the weekend at Sunset Park.

The relatively cool morning hours generally will be the most productive.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Anglers still are finding good fishing in the cool morning hours and late in the day. Fishing slows considerably during the heat of the day.

If you prefer hardware, try Super Dupers, Panther Martins and Mepps spinners. Bait fishermen generally do well with PowerBait. Rainbow with glitter can be a good choice.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- High daytime temperatures have made rainbow trout sluggish and fishing slow. Largemouth bass, on the other hand, have provided good fishing for anglers fishing the weed beds and the deep water along the dam.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- As the summer goes on, weeds will create trouble for shore anglers. Use a plastic bubble filled with water to cast your bait beyond the weed beds. PowerBait and night crawlers generally are productive.

For bass, work the edges of the reservoirs where the tules begin. Don't forget to bring a good brand of mosquito repellent.

ELY AREA -- Most fishing activity has moved from Comins Lake to Illipah or Cave Lake, where trout have provided good fishing opportunities. Try PowerBait, worms and small hardware.

Some die-hard anglers still are working Comins, but few trout are being pulled from this high-desert reservoir. The drop in fishing success is attributed to the maturing population of illegally introduced northern pike.

FREE FISHING CLINIC -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife will hold a free fishing clinic for all ages at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs on July 28. The clinic is to begin at 9 a.m.

Formerly a state park, Floyd Lamb is located off of Durango Road and U.S. Highway 95 in the northwest valley.

The clinic will cover basics such as casting skills, fish identification, bait and lure selection and basic knots. Students also will have a chance to test their new skills.

Participants 12 years old and older are required to have a Nevada fishing license. For more information and registration, call 486-5127 ext. 3503 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
