FISHING REPORT

• LAKE MEAD -- Anglers have enjoyed good top-water action for striped bass in the Vegas Wash area, with some anglers reporting striper boils. In the Hemenway area, fishermen are using live shad to catch fish along the beaches and near the fishing pier. The folks at Sandy Cove Bait & Sporting Goods said anglers have been catching stripers and catfish but that most of the stripers are small.

• LAKE MOHAVE -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife has received several reports that anglers are finding shad in the gut of striped bass and seeing them in the water as well. It has been several years since shad have been seen on a regular basis. Both shore and boat fishermen are finding fair to good action for striped bass, with most success coming at night and in the early morning. A 6-pound largemouth was caught during the American Bass tourney held at Cottonwood Cove.

Anglers at Willow Beach are having mixed success for planted rainbow trout. The hatchery outflow seems to be the hot spot. Trout have been biting on salmon-flavored prepared bait as well as hardware. Striper anglers have been reeling in fish using anchovies, lures and swimbaits. Methods include still-fishing, trolling and casting. The fish have been actively feeding around the clock though most fish have been caught in the early morning hours.

• LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Trout are once again being caught at each of the valley's four urban ponds. NDOW renewed its annual trout-stocking program this week with fish delivered from the agency's hatchery in Mason Valley. Worms, rainbow or chartreuse PowerBait, small spinners or spoons and flies are generally productive.

• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Fair to good fishing can still be found at this small reservoir east of Pioche. Day and nighttime temperatures are still relatively warm. PowerBait and worms are baits of choice for both rainbow and tiger trout. For brown trout, try a woolly bugger in olive or brown.

• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Water conditions are still extremely low. Rainbow trout can be found in the deep water along the dam.

• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Fishing has slowed down, though Cold Springs and Haymeadow have given up rainbow trout to anglers fishing from the dams at each reservoir.
