FISHING REPORT

LAKE MEAD -- Water at the upper end of the Overton Arm is shallow. A four-wheel drive vehicle is needed to launch from the ramp at Overton Beach. Hardware has been taking stripers in the Las Vegas Bay Arm. Largemouth and smallmouth bass have been taken in the backs of coves.

LAKE MOHAVE -- Trout activity has slowed at Willow Beach, though anglers are catching rainbows from the shoreline. Planters in the 12-inch range have been taking PowerBait, lures and flies. Early morning continues to be most productive. Striped bass also have been active in this portion of the lake. Lures of choice are the Bomber Long A and large plugs resembling trout. Fish from 12 to 18 pounds were taken last week.

At Cottonwood Cove, anglers are having moderate success.

LAUGHLIN -- For striped bass, try drift fishing with anchovies. Large plugs or swim baits resembling rainbow trout are effective. Fish the backwaters for largemouth bass and sunfish.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Go to the bottom for catfish. Try night crawlers, chicken livers or prepared stink baits, and fish them on a slip rig. Each urban pond has been stocked with catfish this month. For bluegill, try fishing a mealworm suspended below a bobber.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Action has slowed, with catch rates averaging two to three fish a day. Park supervisor Pete Gill said fishing probably will remain slow through August when water temperatures begin to cool. Low water conditions have reduced boating access in the reservoir's upper end.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Bass, trout and crappie are biting. Trout have taken PowerBait and mini-marshmallows. Bass have been hanging out along the weed beds in front of the dam. Cast to the far side of the weeds with bait suspended about 3 feet below a bobber.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Fishing is steady at Cold Springs, Haymeadow and Adams-McGill. Trout are being caught, but largemouth bass are the most active. Spinner baits work best on deep-water fish; fish in shallow areas are taking plastics such as Powerworms or Powergrubs. Trout have been taking rainbow PowerBait, night crawlers and flies.

ELY AREA -- Trout anglers have put pressure on Illipah and Cave Lake. Few trout are being taken at Comins.
