FISHING REPORT
• LAKE MEAD -- Anglers are catching striped bass in the Overton Arm. Stewarts Point has been a productive area for still-fishermen as well as those who prefer trolling.
A 21.3-pound striper was reeled in near B-5 Road during a Striper Club tournament Saturday. Participants caught three other fish that weighed in the mid-teens.
The Vegas Bay arm still is providing good action for stripers up to 3 pounds. The Nevada Department of Wildlife planted rainbow trout Friday, and several anglers caught their five-fish limit in short order.
• LAKE MOHAVE -- Shore and boat anglers are finding good fishing near Cottonwood Cove. Shad have been seen in coves to the north and to the south of the marina. Trolling with prepared bait in 15 to 60 feet of water continues to be the most productive approach, though anglers also are having success still-fishing with cut bait. A 20-pound striped bass reportedly was caught on hardware last week.
At Willow Beach, trout fishermen have been catching stocked rainbows on Little Jakes, PowerBait and Woolly Buggers near the hatchery outflow. Striped bass anglers have not been as successful, though one angler reported success while casting AC Plugs between Aztec Wash and Placer Cove. His fish ranged in weight between 5 pounds to almost 34 pounds.
Many striped bass anglers are focusing on trophy fish.
• LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- Fishing for stocked rainbows has been good. Fish that had been reluctant to bite are taking prepared baits, spinners, lures and flies. Fly patterns include olive Woolly Buggers, Pistol Petes and Prince Nymphs. The fish seem to be keying on flashy materials.
• EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- The reservoirs are frozen over, but conditions are not safe for ice fishing.
• ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Thin ice and unsafe conditions are reported.
• KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Thin ice and unsafe conditions are reported.
