FISHING REPORT

LAKE MEAD -- Threadfin shad have moved close enough to shore that anglers can catch them or reach trailing stripers with surface lures and other baits.

Anglers continue to reel in small striped bass from the Las Vegas Wash area. Recent winds have made fishing a little tough, but determined anglers are catching fish.

Trout plants should begin in November, with fish coming primarily from the Mason Valley Hatchery in Yerington.

LAKE MOHAVE -- Windy conditions have slowed fishing activity at Willow Beach. Trout fishing has been sluggish, though persistent anglers have caught a few fish. Other fishermen have reeled in catfish, carp and striped bass while fishing downstream from Willow Beach.

At Cottonwood Cove, anglers are finding improved fishing over recent weeks. Both shoreline and boat anglers have been catching fish during all hours of the day. Early mornings and late evenings still are most productive. Catfish are taking prepared baits fished on the bottom, and stripers have been hitting baits trolled behind boats or still-fished at depths from 15 to 60 feet.

LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- This week marks the last time this year that catfish will be stocked in urban ponds. Anglers should find success for catfish as well as bluegill and largemouth bass.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Cool temperatures have fishing heating up. Rainbow trout have been biting on prepared bait, mini- marshmallows and night crawlers. Spinners and lures have been poor performers.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Fishing has picked up, and so has the catching. Two Las Vegas anglers recently pulled in 12 fish in a couple of hours -- eight largemouth bass and four rainbow trout. All fish were caught on spinner baits.

KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Duck season started this weekend, but that shouldn't impact the fishing action for trout or bass. In the past few weeks, fishermen have enjoyed good to excellent trout fishing ranging from small planters to mature holdovers.
