Fishing report
■ LAKE MEAD -- Striper action has slowed to a crawl in the Vegas Wash area and shows signs of slowing elsewhere. The bright spot has been the Overton Arm, where anglers continue to find good fishing for striped bass and catfish. Stripers in the 20-inch range have been hitting cut anchovies. Anglers also are finding top-water action. Catfish fishing is good in the upper and lower basins with cut anchovies and commercial baits. The best action is taking place in the evening. Bass anglers are catching largemouth and smallmouth bass in areas with newly flooded brush.
■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Anglers are finding action for catfish in the 3- to 8-pound range. Nighttime hours are the most productive. Striper fishing remains sluggish in the Cottonwood Cove area, but anglers still are catching a few fish. Reports are that stripers weighing 13 and 8 pounds were caught in recent days. Large trout imitations, including the AC Plug and SPRO swim baits, continue to catch double-digit striped bass south of Willow Beach. One angler caught a 30-pound fish last week, and others have caught fish in the 15- to 25-pound range. The Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery plants rainbow trout every Friday. Anglers are catching stocked rainbows on common trout baits such as PowerBait, night crawlers and a variety of lures and spinners.
■ LAUGHLIN -- Action for striped and smallmouth bass has slowed along the river below Davis Dam. The fish are keying in on crayfish. Rainbow trout action is slow.
■ URBAN PONDS -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife planted catfish in each of the ponds, including Hafen Park pond in Mesquite, on Friday. Fishing improved significantly after the plants, though angler pressure has been high. Anglers have found success for bluegill and even a few largemouth bass at Floyd Lamb Park.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Largemouth bass are hitting Senkos, frogs and other plastics. Trout action is slow. Weed growth remains minimal.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Weeds are makings fishing a challenge, but persistent anglers are catching trout. The fish are hitting on a variety of lures and spinners, as well as PowerBait and night crawlers. The best bite takes place in the morning and evening.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Fishing is decent for largemouth bass and crappie. Anglers are catching bass that average 1 pound, and the crappie are hand-size. Rainbow trout still are taking PowerBait and night crawlers, but the action is beginning to slow as summer weed growth increases. The best action is found in the morning and evening.
