FISHING REPORT
■ LAKE MEAD -- Striped bass are taking cut anchovies and sardines as well as shad-imitating lures and swim baits. The Overton Arm, the Temple Bar area and the lower Boulder Basin are giving up stripers. Early-morning top-water action near Government Wash has been reported. Channel catfish also are on the prowl and can be caught on the bottom with a variety of commercial stink baits, night crawlers and shrimp.
■ LAKE MOHAVE -- The action has cooled off for striped bass as well as largemouth and smallmouth bass in recent days. Still-fishing with cut anchovies and trolling shad imitations near the mouths of coves might goad hungry stripers into biting. Catfish are hitting stink baits and chicken livers. At Willow Beach, trout anglers are finding good fishing for rainbow trout.
■ LAUGHLIN -- Anglers have found success for striped bass and smallmouth bass in the waters from Davis Dam south past Casino Row. To avoid the increased boating traffic that comes with summer, fish in the early morning or evening.
■ URBAN PONDS -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife stocked catfish Tuesday in the ponds at Floyd Lamb Park, Lorenzi Park, Sunset Park and Veteran's Memorial Park in Boulder City. Commercial stink baits, night crawlers and chicken livers fished on the bottom will catch fish. At Floyd Lamb Park, anglers also are catching bluegill. Small red worms, mealworms and flies are productive baits.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Warmer daytime temperatures should result in improved bass fishing. Anglers have found action for rainbow trout, with the fish biting various flavors of PowerBait, spinners and flies.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Anglers are finding good fishing for trout. The lake holds rainbows, German browns and tiger trout. Spinners, PowerBait and small, bead-head flies have been catching fish.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Everything from PowerBait to worms and spinners to flies is catching fish. Anglers are catching rainbow trout, crappie and bass. Small bead-head flies, number 16-20, have been catching rainbows as well as a few crappie. One popular pattern is the Gold Ribbed Hare's Ear. For bass, try something a little larger such as olive, brown or black Woolly Buggers.
