Fishing Report
January 13, 2011 - 12:00 am
■ LAKE MEAD -- Fishing has been fair, with anglers picking up a few large stripers and catfish. The Las Vegas Wash and Overton Arm have been good locations. Most fish are being caught with cut anchovies and night crawlers. Few stripers are taking trout and shad-imitation swim baits. Trout stocking is scheduled for Friday at Hemenway and Crawdad Cove.
■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing is fair to slow for stripers and catfish. Trolling deep with cut anchovies has been the most productive method for stripers. Largemouth and smallmouth bass will hit soft plastics retrieved slowly. The Nevada Department of Wildlife plans to stock trout today at Placer Cove and Aztec Cove. Fishing at Willow Beach continues to be good after the weekly trout plant Friday. While PowerBait and night crawlers will catch fish, the most productive baits have been brightly colored lures with lots of movement.
■ LAS VEGAS URBAN PONDS -- The NDOW planted trout Tuesday at Floyd Lamb Park, Sunset Park and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City. Fishing has been good using several methods, including still-fishing with PowerBait and worms and casting lures and flies.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Anglers have been ice fishing for trout on Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs. The ice has been stable at these locations, though caution is advised.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- The ice is as thick as 10 inches in most areas, though caution is advised. Fishing has been good for rainbow trout with orange and rainbow PowerBait as well as marshmallows and night crawlers. A few tiger trout have been caught. The campground and parking area for the dock have been cleared of snow.
Special Event: Spring Valley State Park will host an ice golfing event Jan. 22. Though golfing on the ice is one of the main events, people also can ice fish at other locations. Call 775-962-5102 for more information.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- The reservoir is high, and the fishing has been good for rainbow trout. No reports of bass or crappie. The ice is not as thick as at Eagle Valley, so caution is advised.
