Fishing Report

■ LAKE MEAD -- Fishing action has been sluggish for the past couple of weeks, though anglers are pulling in a few striped bass in the Overton Arm and the Vegas Wash area. Others have found success trolling swimbaits after trout plants at Hemenway and Crawdad Cove. The next plant is scheduled for Friday, with another to follow Tuesday. If stocked rainbows are getting pressure from feeding stripers, they will leave the stocking location quickly in search of cover. Look for them near structures and weed beds.

Participants in the Angler's Choice tournament found fishing for black bass tough last weekend, but the winning pair weighed in more than 9 pounds of fish. The tournament's largest fish came in at 3.56 pounds.

■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Anglers have experienced success for trout and striped bass after rainbow trout plants by the Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery. Trout spread out quickly, so be flexible in the fishing approach and location. Nevada Department of Wildlife plans call for a trout plant today at Placer and Aztec coves, with another one Tuesday. Stripers have been taken on swimbaits thrown from the shoreline. Anglers fishing out of Cottonwood Cove continue to find slow going for striped bass, though some fish are hitting anchovies trolled in water 30 to 50 feet deep. Fishing for black bass has been fair with jigs and plastics.

■ URBAN PONDS -- Fishing action has been slow, but the NDOW trout plant that took place Tuesday should help. A Nevada fishing license is required for anyone who is 12 years of age or older, and the limit is three fish.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- The NDOW is urging anglers to use caution when venturing onto the ice. These reservoirs generally are among the first to thaw.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Hard-water fishing action has slowed, though some die-hards have pulled a few tiger and rainbow trout through the ice. The ice is about 9 inches thick, but caution is advised. Generally, PowerBait and night crawlers with marshmallows are productive.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- There has been no fishing activity during the past week. With daytime temperatures pushing 50 degrees, the ice has thinned, so be cautious.
