Fishing Report

■ LAKE MEAD -- Find shad, and striped bass shouldn't be too far away. Live shad are the bait of choice, but cut anchovies and sardines also produce fish.

Boaters have found the best action, while shore fishing has been slow to fair. Trolling is best in the early-morning or evening hours.

The nighttime bite has picked up for both stripers and catfish. For cats, go with stink baits, shrimp or worms fished on the bottom. Largemouth and smallmouth bass action has slowed.

■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Fishing has been slow to fair at Cottonwood Cove. Anglers are marking fish with their finders but have had trouble getting them to bite. Some success has come to boaters trolling with anchovies at depths of 30 to 50 feet.

Catfish action will be best in the late evening and overnight.

Big stripers are showing up at Willow Beach and taking AC Plugs and Spro lures. Recent catches include fish weighing 27.8, 28.4 and 32.2 pounds. Rainbow trout are planted on Fridays.

■ URBAN PONDS -- The Nevada Department of Wildlife stocks catfish once a month during the summer.

For catfish, use a slip sinker with a treble hook, and bait up with night crawlers or stink bait. For bluegill, drop a mealworm on a small hook below a bobber.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Anglers have been catching trout from the dams at Cold Springs and Haymeadow, though the action has slowed. Weeds will become a problem as temperatures warm. Bass fishing picked up briefly, then slowed in recent days.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Anglers are catching stocked rainbows using mini-marshmallows with night crawlers, red-and-white Mepps spinners and small Rapalas.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Rainbow trout, crappie and largemouth bass are all hitting. Crappie and bass are hitting little Gitzits, jigs and worms. Trout fishing is usually good along the dam.
