FISHING REPORT
■ LAKE MEAD -- Fishing has been fair to good. Stripers have been biting in the Overton Arm with success on anchovies near Echo Bay. In the Vegas Wash area, anglers need to be patient and wait for subtle strikes to catch stripers. Catfish are biting a variety of baits, from anchovies to stink baits. Most catfish have been from 2 to 4 pounds. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are in spawning mode. Dedicated anglers can have a good day of bass fishing by looking for fish near structure in shallow coves.
■ LAKE MOHAVE -- The bass bite has been good, and fish are moving onto nests. Trolling with anchovies in 30 to 50 feet of water has been producing stripers, while catfish are on the bottom. Trout anglers are picking up fish at Willow Beach, though striper action has been spotty.
■ URBAN PONDS -- Anglers continue to catch catfish after the plant two weeks ago. But the catch rates have dropped from good to fair. Popular baits include night crawlers, shrimp, stink baits and chicken liver. Trout fishing continues to be fair at Floyd Lamb and Sunset parks using mealworms, lures and flies.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Despite storms last week, fishing was good for trout on all reservoirs. Success was found using size 22 and 24 midges below a strike indicator.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Anglers are catching tiger trout with lures and flies. Fish up to 16 inches long are being caught near the north end of the reservoir. The final trout plant for the spring was conducted last week. Anglers should be able to catch planted rainbows using PowerBait, worms, lures and flies.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Anglers are reaping benefits from a recent trout plant. Fish are taking PowerBait, worms, lures and flies. Though anglers have been able to catch a few bass, bucket mouths and crappie are not active.
