Fishing report
February 25, 2010 - 12:00 am
■ LAKE MEAD -- Fishing has been good off the dock at Boulder Harbor for trout and stripers. Several stripers were caught before the trout plant. Boating anglers fishing for stripers near Hemenway pulled in two lunkers at 20 and 22 pounds.
■ LAKE MOHAVE -- The trout bite is good on salmon eggs, PowerBait, PowerWorms, small lures and flies. Cottonwood Cove is picking up but reported as fair. Anglers have landed a few stripers from 5 to 39 pounds while using plugs. All were caught casting from a boat or trolling. Anglers using bait reported no success. American Bass had a tournament last weekend with minimal success; no team brought in the limit of five fish. The largest fish was recorded at 5.58 pounds by John Rose and Doug Glasgow.
■ URBAN PONDS -- Trout were planted Tuesday at all urban ponds in Clark County except Hafen Pond in Mesquite. Fishing has been good using PowerBait, lures and flies.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- Ice is not safe to fish on at Adams McGill, Cold Springs and Haymeadow. Float tubers are taking advantage of Dacey Reservoir, with more than half the reservoir free of ice. Due to muddy and snowy conditions, four-wheel drive is recommended.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Ice has been thick near the dock and dam, providing good ice fishing for carry-over trout. But with warmer weather expect conditions to change.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- Ice conditions are unknown.
