Fishing Report, Feb. 16

■ LAKE MEAD -- Striper action remains slow overall, though anglers are finding some success with bait in deep water or by trolling. The bite has been fair to good in the back of Vegas Bay and where the wash comes into the lake.

Nothing of great size has been caught this week, but fishermen are seeing decent fish. Action for smallmouth and largemouth bass remains slow.

■ LAKE MOHAVE -- Willow Beach has given up a few of its legendary stripers in recent days. Anglers have reeled in fish weighing 12 to 23 pounds. AC Plugs and other trout imitations are the go-to baits.

Fish are hitting from along the river from mile markers 47 to 55. Anglers are catching trout while throwing worms from the fishing pier.

Striper fishing out of Cottonwood Cove remains slow. Anglers found good action for smallmouth and largemouth bass during a weekend tournament. The best action was seen on artificial lures.

■ LAUGHLIN -- Anglers are catching stocked rainbows in the Laughlin area, with the best action taking place at Davis Camp and Rotary Park. Anglers also are finding fish across from the Riverside Hotel and near Big Bend. Night crawlers, floating baits and lures are catching fish.

Stripers have been slow, with the best action on crank baits or anchovies.

■ URBAN PONDS -- Weekly trout plants by the Nevada Department of Wildlife have resulted in good fishing. Flies, worms, PowerBait and lures are productive in these waters. The limit is three fish.

Lorenzi Park is not receiving fish because of planned construction activities.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA -- The ice is starting to melt. Dams on Haymeadow and Cold Springs have access to open water, and anglers can fish off the dams at both reservoirs. Dacey Reservoir is completely open. Adams-McGill Reservoir has open water in the middle, with some dam access. All of the reservoirs are close to being ice-free. Ice fishing is not recommended.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR -- Rainbows are catching extremely well, with the average size 12 to 14 inches. Trout are hitting on orange or green PowerBait, a white jig with a pink head, or a combination of night crawlers with a little bit of marshmallow.

Check ice conditions before any fishing attempts, and always use caution when venturing onto the ice.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR -- The reservoir is frozen but has open water spreading from the upper end. Fishing on the ice is not recommended. Many anglers are seeing success right off the front of the dam near the pipe.

Anglers fishing in this area have reported bass, crappies and trout. The largest bass reported weighed near 3½ pounds.
