Fishing Report, June 28
■ LAKE MEAD - Striped bass are biting along the beaches north of the Hemenway launch ramp. Chumming and fishing with cut anchovies is catching the fish in the early morning. Anglers are reporting good nighttime fishing for stripers and catfish. Cut bait also has been catching small stripers in the Vegas Wash area, but shad are tough to find. Anglers are reporting some top-water action, but it occurs only in brief spurts, and the fish are lure-shy. Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass action remains good, with anglers finding success with crank baits, plastics and jigs.
■ LAKE MOHAVE - Willow Beach is producing large stripers for anglers throwing or trolling with large trout imitations. During the past week, anglers have weighed in fish up to 29 pounds. Striper action is slow for anglers fishing out of Cottonwood Cove and Katherine Landing, but anglers are finding success for catfish at night. Black bass are hitting well in the morning and late afternoon.
■ LAUGHLIN - Anglers are catching striped bass from the Davis Camp area south past Casino Row. They also are catching a few rainbow trout, which are holdovers from past fish plants.
■ URBAN PONDS - Bluegill have been taking baits suspended about 3 feet below a bobber. Red worms and mealworms will catch the fish. Another bait choice for bluegill and panfish is white bread; roll it into a small ball, and use a small hook. Catfish are feeding on the bottom. Use a No. 6 hook with night crawlers, stink bait or chicken liver. Limit is three fish.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA - It's bass time at Sunnyside Reservoir. Bucket mouths are hitting soft plastics such as Power Hawg and Baby Brush Hog. There were reports of an 11-pound monster taken out of Cold Springs. Crappie also have turned on recently. The water level in Haymeadow has dropped noticeably but still is up in Cold Springs and Haymeadow. Trout fishing is slow.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR - Rainbow and tiger trout are hitting a variety of baits, including small red worms, night crawlers, Rapala lures and other hardware. PowerBait in green and rainbow color variations also is catching fish.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR - Crappie action is good at this small reservoir located east of Pioche. The fish are hitting small, white jigs. Anglers also are catching stocked rainbow trout and black bass.
