FISHING REPORT – march 7, 2013

■ LICENSES — Nevada fishing and hunting licenses are available. The license year runs from March 1 until the final day of February 2014.

■ LAKE MEAD — The big fish are biting again. A large striper just over 20 pounds was brought into the Laker Plaza bait and tackle shop along with about a dozen in the 6- to 9-pound range. Anglers have been using anchovies or trolling with large lures to entice the larger fish.

As the weather warms, the bass will go into pre-spawn mode and move into shallower water.

■ LAKE MOHAVE — Warm temperatures with no wind made for a great largemouth bass tournament this past Saturday. The top angler brought in a five-fish limit that totaled more than 18 pounds and included a 6½-pound fish. Productive baits include plastics, live worms and various reaction baits.

■ LAUGHLIN — The striper bait is slow, but rainbow trout are providing anglers with good action. Two anglers recently checked in with bows pushing past the 4-pound threshold.

Trout are biting in the Davis Camp area, along Casino Row and near Rotary Park. The last trout plant of the year will be Tuesday.

■ URBAN PONDS — Springlike weather conditions brought out quite a few people to enjoy fishing at local ponds.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife will continue to plant trout weekly until water temperatures become too warm. Try using small spinning lures, PowerBait, Power Eggs or night crawlers.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — All the reservoirs are free of ice. The water is mildly murky, but that has not stopped the fish from biting. Launching boats will not be a problem this week. Dacey is producing rainbows ranging from 12 to 16 inches for anglers using flies and spinners. Cold Springs and Haymeadow are giving up lots of smaller rainbows, but the action is fast.

There were no reports on Adams-McGill Reservoir, but fishing access will not be a problem for boaters, float tubers and shore fishermen.

■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Ice conditions no longer are safe on the reservoir for ice fishing, but there is a little open water on the north side of the lake and anglers have found success for rainbows using small spinners or bait fishing using PowerBait and worms.

■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Fishing success has improved this past week now that the reservoir is ice free and completely full of water. Anglers are having success for 12- to 14-inch rainbows on everything from small spinners to PowerBait in green or orange, as well as night crawlers.
