Fishing Report, Nov. 28
■ LAKE MEAD — Water levels have been holding at 1,106 feet. With the recent rains causing runoff into the coves, anglers should have success working the shallows, where bass are hanging in the murky waters. Shad has been the most successful bait for striped bass and can be found throughout the Vegas Wash area. With the new moon on Monday, try fishing under a light or using a submersible light to attract fish.
■ LAKE MOHAVE — Lake levels have increased to 636 feet. Striper action has been light, but anglers report anchovies working better than the imitation lures. At Willow Beach, those fishing for trout have had success using PowerBait and small spinning lures. Those striped bass in the area go for various trout imitation lures, and anglers have been catching many in the double-digit range.
■ LAUGHLIN — Anglers have been having success catching rainbow trout. In a recent fishing derby, 5.7-pound and 4.7-pound trout were caught. PowerBait has worked well for many of the stocked trout, and the larger holdovers from previous years seem to prefer lures. Try various methods to work on filling your creel. The stocked trout are moving from the immediate area where they were planted and can be found in holes near the casino area or into the Sunshine Peninsula.
■ URBAN PONDS — The Nevada Department of Wildlife is planting rainbow trout each week into Tule pond at Floyd Lamb Park, Lorenzi Park, Sunset Park and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City. Of the four ponds at Floyd Lamb, only the upper Tule pond is stocked with rainbows. At Veterans Memorial, there are two ponds, with the upper pond receiving fish. The lower one next to the parking area is closed to fishing.
■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA — Fishing remains the same in the past week for those braving the elements. Expect muddy road conditions and thin ice along the shorelines of the reservoirs.
■ EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR — Plenty of snow fell last weekend, but it’s melting off quickly with sunny skies. Ice has been forming nightly around the lake edges but mostly melts off by afternoon, and trout action remains good using powerbait, nightcrawlers, small spinners and woolly buggers (dark coloration). The campground is open, and roads are passable.
■ ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR — Trout action remains good using powerbait, worms, small lures and flies. Ice has been forming overnight but melts off by early afternoon. The campground is open.
■ FISHING CLASSES — The NDOW will hold a free family fishing clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 14 at Floyd Lamb Park. Register at www.ndow.org/Fish/Classes, or contact Ivy Santee at 702-486-5127, extension 3503.
