Five-run fifth inning propels 51s to victory over Sky Sox
Brad Emaus two-out, two-run double capped the scoring in the 51s five-run fifth inning Friday night in an 8-4 Pacific Coast League win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Las Vegas (30-39) strung together six hits in a seven-batter span in the fifth, with Chris Lubanski, Brian Dopirak and Chris Aguila connecting for RBI singles.
Emaus, Lubanski, J.P. Arencibia, Brett Wallace and Jonathan Diaz finished with two hits apiece for the 51s, who held a 13-10 edge in hits. Both of Arencibias hits were doubles, and Lubanski and Dopirak each drove in two runs.
Marc Rzepczynski (2-3) settled down after the Sky Soxs two-run first inning to go six innings and give up three runs on eight hits and two walks. He struck out six.
Josh Roenicke earned his first save after giving up one run on two hits and a walk over the final three innings. He struck out five.
Alan Johnson (6-3) was tagged for eight runs on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings. He fanned three.
Omar Quintanilla had two RBI doubles for Colorado Springs (32-36), Dexter Fowler went 3-for-5 with a double and scored twice, and Jay Payton had a double, a single and an RBI.
