Gonzalez dominant in return to 51s

Rey Gonzalez pitched five shutout innings in his first start with the 51s this season, and his teammates provided plenty of support in Las Vegas' 10-0 Pacific Coast League win over the Tucson Padres on Saturday night in Tucson, Ariz.

Gonzalez (1-0), who opened this season at Double-A New Hampshire, limited the Padres (28-35) to four hits and two walks and had no strikeouts. The 25-year-old Cuban right-hander went 6-1 with a 2.56 ERA in 11 starts with the Fisher Cats this season after going 6-6 with a 9.18 ERA in 16 starts with the 51s in 2010.

Craig Stansberry, Travis Snider and David Cooper -- the top three batters in Las Vegas' lineup -- each went 3-for-5 to pace the 51s' 17-hit assault. Stansberry had two doubles, including one that drove in two runs in a three-run fourth inning for Las Vegas (35-28).

Adam Loewen's 11th home run of the season, a three-run shot in the seventh, knocked out Padres starter Jon Leicester (3-2). The right-hander was lit up for nine runs, eight earned, on 15 hits.

Willie Collazo pitched three hitless innings of relief for the 51s, and Rommie Lewis struck out two in the ninth.

The teams cap their four-game series tonight before Las Vegas returns home for its next eight games.
