Gordon lifts Lobos in opener

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Drew Gordon had a double-double, leading six Lobos in double figures as New Mexico opened its season with a 92-40 win over New Orleans on Friday night.
Gordon finished with game highs of 14 points and 13 rebounds. A.J. Hardeman and Cameron Bairstow added 13 points apiece for the Lobos.
New Mexico opened with a 9-0 run, blanking the Privateers until the 15:15 mark, when Antonio Wertz hit a short jumper.
■ San Diego State 75, Bryant 63 -- At San Diego, Chase Tapley scored 18 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Aztecs past the Bulldogs in the season-opening Basketball Travelers Classic.
Garrett Green added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Aztecs, who reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament last season. Xavier Thames contributed 16 points in his first game for San Diego State.
The game was the first official one of the season for both teams and the second overall in the three-day, four-team tournament. Southern Utah beat UC Davis 76-75 in an exhibition earlier in the day.
■ Texas Christian 73, Florida Gulf Coast 72 -- At Fort Worth, Texas, Valley High product Hank Thorns hit a layup with 12 seconds left to help the Horned Frogs hold on after nearly squandering a 16-point lead against the Eagles in a season-opening game.
J.R. Cadot led the Horned Frogs, who never trailed, with team highs of 16 points and seven rebounds. Adrick McKinney, Garlon Green and Thorns scored 10 points each.
■ Colorado State 64, Montana 58 -- At Fort Collins, Colo., Wes Eikmeier scored 21 points, including 10-for-10 free throw shooting, as the Rams held off the Grizzlies in the season opener for both teams.
Pierce Hornung had his second career double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds for Colorado State, which had a 43-24 rebounding advantage and made 22 of 29 free throws.
■ Boise State 95, Colorado Christian 44 -- At Boise, Idaho, Derrick Marks scored 20 points in his debut to help the Broncos to a convincing victory over the Division II Cougars in the season opener for both teams.
Marks shot 8 of 8 from the field, and Ryan Watkins added 14 points on 7-for-7 shooting for the Broncos.
■ Air Force 87, Army 71 -- At Air Force Academy, Colo., Michael Lyons had 24 points and nine rebounds to lead the Falcons past the Cadets in the first round of the All-Military Classic.
Air Force's Taylor Stewart had career highs with 16 points and seven assists.
