GORMAN RAINED OUT IN LEGION SERIES FINAL
Bishop Gorman finally found an opponent that wouldn't let it win -- Mother Nature.
Rain forced the postponement of the scheduled final day of the American Legion World Series in Shelby, N.C., on Tuesday. The Titans (74-7-1) must wait until at least today to try to wrap up the series championship.
Gorman and Pasco (Wash.) were on the field, throwing and stretching in preparation for Tuesday's scheduled 1 p.m. (PDT) start before a lengthy shower forced the game to be delayed and eventually postponed until 6 a.m. today.
"I don't know that it's a big deal," Gorman coach Chris Sheff said. "I'm not sure if it's more of an advantage for us or for them. Their pitchers maybe needed the rest. Ours are in pretty good shape. It gives us an extra day, but our arms are ready."
Rain is in the forecast for Shelby again today, but tournament organizers still hope to complete play.
Gorman, a winner of 20 straight games, defeated Pasco 10-8 Saturday.
Pasco (51-19) must beat Gorman twice to win the title in the double-elimination tournament.
Sheff said Stephen Manthei remains the likely starter for today's game. If a second game is needed, Donn Roach, who threw seven innings Friday, would start.
