HEAD OF THE CLASS

ARBOR VIEW -- Girls volleyball player Stayzia Garness had seven digs in a 3-0 win over Valley. Defensive lineman Terry Ormond had three sacks and two additional tackles for loss against Green Valley.

BONANZA -- Boys cross country runner Steve Simmons finished fourth in a meet with Spring Valley and Del Sol. Girls cross country runner Karah Marx was first in a meet with Spring Valley and Del Sol.

CENTENNIAL -- Boys soccer player Kevin Rogge totaled five goals and two assists in wins over Cheyenne and Legacy. Girls volleyball player Johnna Brown totaled 40 kills, four blocks, 34 digs and four aces in victories over Spring Valley, Green Valley and Pahrump Valley.

CHAPARRAL -- Girls volleyball libero Jordan McGinness had 28 digs and a .783 passing percentage in three matches. Football player Isaiah Washington rushed for 145 yards and two TDs in a 35-28 win over Basic.

CHEYENNE -- Football player Marcus Sullivan rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries against Canyon Springs. He also caught a TD pass.

CIMARRON-MEMORIAL -- Football player Stephen Nixon rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns in a 48-6 win over Desert Pines. Nixon had TD runs of 34, 65 and 64 yards.

DURANGO -- Football player Keiffer Mancebo had four catches for 78 yards and a touchdown against Liberty.

FAITH LUTHERAN -- Girls cross country runner Keely Bakken won the varsity small-school division at the Las Vegas Invitational with a time of 21 minutes, 44 seconds for the 3.1-mile race.

GREEN VALLEY -- Girls volleyball player Siga Appelgate totaled 42 kills, six aces, 11 digs and three blocks while posting a .242 hitting percentage in matches against Palo Verde, Centennial and Durango. Boys soccer forward Rodrigo Medina scored three goals in two games, including the game winner in the final minute of a 1-0 victory over Coronado.

LEGACY -- Boys cross country runner Zach Ipson won a 2.25-mile race at Cheyenne with a time of 12 minutes, 48 seconds to lead the Longhorns to a second-place team finish. Girls volleyball player Kathleen Noorda had 18 aces against Canyon Springs.

LIBERTY -- Football player Sage Nua had 11 tackles against Durango. He had eight solo tackles, 11/2 sacks and a forced fumble. Girls cross country runner Joslyn Evans won the Laughlin Invitational, running the 2.25-mile race in 16 minutes, 28 seconds.

THE MEADOWS -- Freshman quarterback Gerard Martinez threw for 204 yards and five touchdowns in a 46-26 win over Chadwick (Calif.).

MOUNTAIN VIEW -- Football player Raymond Velarde rushed for 173 yards and a touchdown, and passed for 159 yards against Foothills Christian (Calif.). Girls volleyball player Felicia Joiner was named to the all-tournament team at the Lake Mead Tournament.

PALO VERDE -- Football player Kelly Zurowski was 5-for-7 passing for 120 yards and two TDs against Del Sol. He also had six tackles and a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown. Girls tennis player Sarah Alamshaw went 6-0 in singles for the week.

SPRING VALLEY -- Boys soccer player Mutaz Alghouleh scored the winning goal with three minutes remaining in a 1-0 win over Durango.

VALLEY -- Football player Suki Wilks had 11 tackles, including three for loss, and a forced fumble in a 54-32 win over Western.
