HEAD OF THE CLASS
• ARBOR VIEW -- Girls track athlete Kourtney Willey set school records in the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 32 seconds) and the 1,600 (5:51).
• BISHOP GORMAN -- Baseball player Jeff Malm was 9-for-14 with two home runs, three doubles and seven RBIs in three games. Girls track athlete Madison Levine was first in the 1,600 and 3,200 in a meet with Durango, Western and Trinity.
• BONANZA -- Girls softball player Emily Osborn was 4-for-6 with a double and an RBI to lead the Bengals to an 18-6 win over Bishop Gorman.
• CANYON SPRINGS -- Boys track athlete Gabe Washington set personal records in the 110 hurdles (15.8 seconds) and 300 hurdles (41.0) at the Skyhawk Invitational.
• CENTENNIAL -- Girls swimmer Kristen Farbridge-Currie won the 50- and 500-yard freestyles and swam on the winning 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay teams against Arbor View. She set a school record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.22 seconds. Boys golfer Zach Chyz shot 1-under-par 71 to finish second at a Northwest Division match at Aliante.
• CHAPARRAL -- Boys track athlete Joeal Hotchkins won the long jump (22 feet, 1 inch) and the 200 (21.87 seconds) and was second in the 400 (51.08) at the Skyhawk Invitational. Hotchkins also anchored the winning 800 relay. Girls track athlete Lista Duweynie was second in the 100 hurdles (17.19) and ran on the second-place 800 relay and the fourth-place 400 relay at the Skyhawk Invitational.
• CIMARRON-MEMORIAL -- Boys track athlete Stephen Nixon won the 100 at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational with a time of 10.63 seconds. Girls swimmer Amanda Guerrero won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.78 against Sierra Vista.
• CORONADO -- Boys volleyball player Eric Boman totaled 27 kills, four blocks and four aces in three wins. Girls swimmer Jill Occhiuto won the 100 freestyle against Tech.
• DURANGO -- Boys volleyball player Darren Torrie totaled 67 assists, 11 kills and seven blocks in three matches.
• ELDORADO -- Boys swimmer Tyler Peck was first in the 100 breaststroke against Canyon Springs. Girls swimmer Kaylee Ficklin placed first in the 100 backstroke against Canyon Springs.
• FAITH LUTHERAN -- Boys swimmer Don Pearson won the 50 freestyle in 23.01 seconds against Spring Valley.
• GREEN VALLEY -- Boys track athlete Michael Crutcher placed second in the 300 hurdles (38.31 seconds) at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational.
• LAS VEGAS -- Boys volleyball player Jonathan Dugan totaled 37 kills, 40 digs and four aces to lead the Wildcats to wins over Desert Pines and Rancho. Softball player Tiffini Lucero scored the winning run against Desert Pines and raised her average to .460.
• THE MEADOWS -- Boys track athlete Nick Bratton threw the shot put 43 feet, 10 inches and had a discus throw of 117-11 to place second among freshmen and sophomores at the Russell Cup in Santa Barbara, Calif. Girls track athlete Kristyna Fong was fourth among freshmen and sophomores in the 100 hurdles and fifth in the pole vault at the Russell Cup.
• SIERRA VISTA -- Boys golfer Christopher Schaudel shot a career-best 78 at a Southwest Division match at Red Rock.
• PALO VERDE -- Boys golfer Chris Viravongsa won a Northwest Division Match with a 2-under-par 70. He also was first in a dual match with Durango. Girls track athlete Melissa Breedlove was first in the 400 with a time of 1:04.1 and ran on the winning 1,600 relay team in a meet with Desert Pines, Arbor View, Australia Select and Indian Springs.
• SILVERADO -- Boys diver Raphael Carvalho was first with a score of 143.55 points in a meet with Boulder City. Girls swimmer Lauren Willis placed first in the 50 freestyle against Boulder City.
• SPRING VALLEY -- Girls swimmer Lucy Kerr had a regional qualifying time in the 50 freestyle in a meet with Faith Lutheran. Boys swimmer Tim Moore set a school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.32 against Faith Lutheran.
• TECH -- Baseball player Chris Sambol was 7-for-11 with two home runs, three stolen bases and five RBIs in four games.
• VALLEY -- Boys volleyball player Alonzo Blount had eight kills and three blocks in a 3-1 win over Eldorado.
