Henderson’s Painter leads field for Senior Masters bowling finals

Four players made it through match play undefeated Thursday in the U.S. Bowling Congress Senior Masters at the South Point Bowling Center, while eight others still remain with one loss.

Kerry Painter of Henderson, Lennie Boresch Jr. of Kenosha, Wis., Dave Axon of Bellevue, Neb., and Robert Brown, Cody, Wyo., all survived four rounds unbeaten in the double-elimination match-play bracket.

Boresch, a USBC Hall of Famer, beat fellow Hall of Famer Pete Weber of St. Ann., Mo., 705-670 in his final three-game, total-pinfall match of the day.

Boresch is the highest seed — at No. 6 — remaining in the winner’s bracket and will take on Axon today, while Painter will battle Brown. The winners of those matches are guaranteed either the first or second seed for the stepladder finals, scheduled for 6 p.m. today.
