HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
My Redeemer - Just missed last time in a strong second career effort; if he improves just a step, he'll be tough to beat.
Sandita - The two favorites were only a half-length apart last time out; Delgadillo has impressed with his few live mounts.
Long Shot - Wayne Manor
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Ever So Nice - Reclaimed by Mullins, a strong trainer angle, even more so by him; may have too much back class for these.
Lupita'sluckyangel - Has transformed herself from a pace router to a dead late sprint closer; will need things to go right.
Long Shot - Strip in Wager
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $48,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Pride of Pegasus - Was flattered when La Tee won right back out of her MSW win; has the best pedigree here for 2-turns.
Poule d'Eau - By sprint champ Orientate, she figures to show some speed going 2-turns for the first time; a lot to like.
Long Shot - Rivoltella
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $80,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Macadamia - Exiting numerous good tries in stakes for this much softer spot; meant to be a confidence booster for her.
Miss Josiey Wales - Mullins barn is slowing warming up after a lousy couple of months; tactical speed to sit a decent trip.
Long Shot - Without Delay
Race 5 - 7 furlongs, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up
Captain Sacto - Ran miserably last time out, but has shown some spunk in prior races; will pay more attention to Delgadillo.
Bright Prediction - Chalk draws the OK parking lot post for this elongated sprint; Talamo can take his time and grind late.
Long Shot - Bridge too Far
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $55,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Batallosa - Highly regarded South American import making her U.S. debut for McAnally; we'll see how wound tight she is today.
Candy Jo - She showed she loves the Cushion track with a velvety win last time; when Mullins horses get good, they stay good.
Long Shot - Babe Hall
Race 7 - 1 1/4 miles (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up
Ring of Friendship - Odd that Mitchell is exposing this one for $40k; ran well in the Quicken Tree, he is the one to catch.
Isipingo - Just graduated from his MSW last time, I like his turf pedigree by Horse Chestnut; still has a lot of upside.
Long Shot - Dadsalittleunusual
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
Crafty Ruler - Was flattered when Thoroughly won a stakes next time out; interesting that he was heavily favored over that one.
Transvaal Scottish - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; adding blinkers on, need not be much.
Long Shot - Top Dis N Dat
Best Bet - Macadamia (race 4)
Hollywood Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/4/$22.60; Long Shots, 9/1/$6.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.20
Hollywood Totals - 620/143/$916.00; Long Shots, 303/41/$433.20; Best Bets, 36/16/$63.60
