TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Summer Jade - Shown steady improvement, especially when switched to grass; Talamo takes over, that signals intent.
Ginny Winner - Ran well in lone turf try and in Cushion track debut in last; Sherman barn is rolling out live runners.
Long Shot - Warren's Summer
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Peace Accord - Claimed by Sadler and spotted where he can win right away; short priced favorite will be awful tough.
Mike's Trippin - Ran miserably in last after a decent effort two races ago; Sherman barn is going well, a rebound is likely.
Long Shot - High Command
Race 3 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up
Lazio - Is aggressivly raised in class after beating bottom level claimers; he certainly has the back class to repeat.
Careless Candidate - Tepid chalk was claimed in last by Monteleone; like that Talamo takes over, he'll have his hands full
Long Shot - Victory Style
Race 4 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $51,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Power Shift - Clever price horse has run well over Cushion track and in lone sod start; could wake up at generous odds.
Lord Stripes - We'll test Gulfstream turf form over Hollywood grass; Dutrow barn is trying to gain a foothold in SoCal.
Long Shot - Like New Money
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $58,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
C'Mon Tiger - Baffert colt is a half-brother to Tiznow, and is being managed like fine china; has yet to be tested for class.
Awesome Gem - This by far is the classiest animal in the field, but may not be cranked tight for this; he's had his moments.
Long Shot - Salty Humor
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Go Dawg - Baffert baby is well spotted for diploma today; failed in Cushion track debut, but suspect he can rebound here.
Tabarin - FTS from Shirreffs is a 4-YO, hope he doesn't need a race after that much training; best stride will come late.
Long Shot - Rivoltella
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $39,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds and up
Stylin Cat - Got up late as the 4/5 chalk in last at NoCal; is well spotted in a high claimer to repeat the winning effort.
Faulkwood Shores - Solid trainer change to first time Pupye; has paired a couple decent races going into today's sod mile.
Long Shot - Minister Blair
Race 8 - 1 1/8th miles, $75,000 Alydar, 3-year-olds
Tap It Light - O'Neill has an uncoupled entry and guess what, this guy is the longer odds horse; should be finishing fast.
Cobalt Blue - Logical chalk may not be cranked up since a pathetic try in the Illinois Derby; he's a lot better than that.
Long Shot - Level Red
Race 9 - 5 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
Yodelfest - Second time out Swiss Yodeler is, of course, from the Harrington barn; expect her to show major improvement here.
Lauren C - Tepid chalk did not improve as expected last time out; has a hard time swallowing her at short odds today.
Long Shot - My Maloof Rocker
Best Bet - Go Dawg (race 6)
Hollywood Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$15.60; Long Shots, 8/3/$32.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.40
