HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $49,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Hello Bolly - Let's go with the veteran rider Espinoza in an extremely tough opener; will sit and make one big late run.
Charm N Broad - Turning back in distance, she does have some speed for bugboy Foley to utilize; suspect will save ground.
Long Shot - Newport Topper
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Marqz Melody - Stretching out around 2-turns for the first time; she should get first jump on the other main contenders.
Veils de Fleur - Dead late closer was stupidly pressed into the pace last time; should rebound with a stronger effort.
Long Shot - Risky Game
Race 3 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
Holy Lark - Typical Solis ride in last, 4-wide on the turn and lost to a perfect trip rail winner; I'll give Rosario a shot.
Conclave - Did everything last time but win in a tough beat; tactical speed to protect his inside, ground saving post.
Long Shot - Tom West
Race 4 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Hennessy Rose - Was well bet in debut, they nearly trailed throughout; she's wearing blinkers on today, expect improvement.
Stop the Humor - Just missed last time in a very good effort; a repeat performance can get her picture taken today.
Long Shot - America's Friend
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Celtic Way - Claimed by the white hot Ellis barn; has put in a long sequence of works and she looks ready for her return.
Holly's Gold - Strong run last time facing slightly tougher foes; she'll be a square price, proven that she's a fighter.
Long Shot - Leslie Lill
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Snow Fighter - Ran great in return off a 9-month hiatus; he faced much tougher at Del Mar last summer, can handle these.
The Ivan Show - Slow start, fast finish, will guarantee he gets way overbet; not the best favorite on tonight's card.
Long Shot - Dakota Padre
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $41,000, Claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up
Brooker - Claimed by the underrated Guillot, he's got enough talent to upset; Espinoza will save his best stride for last.
Areyoutalkintome - Note that Espinoza exits this guy to ride Brooker, I like that; dangerous foe has beaten better before.
Long Shot - Carthage
Race 8 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Neutrality - Short priced chalk has been burning some bettor's money of late; still, on paper she overwhelms this weak field.
Presta Strada - FTS from the very sharp Sherman barn, need not be much to graduate first out; she's facing a very slow group.
Long Shot - Warren's Crystal
Best Bet - Holy Lark (race 3)
Hollywood Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$38.40; Long Shots, 8/3/$33.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.00
Hollywood Totals - 733/167/$1,107.00; Long Shots, 358/50/$521.00; Best Bets, 43/18/$73.20
