HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1:20 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Kelly Carson - Sharp pair of wins, but West continues sliding her down the claiming ladder; suspicious, but still the one to beat.

More Angels - Speedy sort was bested by Carrie's Jewel last time out; suspect she may have needed a tightener off the claim by Spawr.

Long Shot - Carrie's a Jewel

Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Mobo - Did all the dirty work last time before fading to third late; O'Neill adding blinkers on, Talamo ensures good handling.

Kruger Park - FTS from Gallagher has been impressing all the clockers in the a.m.; note that Solis rides here and not for Headley.

Long Shot - Catch That Thief

Race 3 - 1 1/4 miles (turf), Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $40,000, The Fermo Cambianica Memorial, 4-year-olds and up

Big Jon - He will not face an easier task trying to win his second career race; tactical speed to sit a nice trip and grind late.

Skellytown - Close but no cigar last time out, now extends to today's marathon distance; he can relax and do his best late.

Long Shot - Ring of Friendship

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, $100,000 Los Angeles Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Peace Chant - Gets tested for class in his first stakes start this year; highly regarded last year, he's been running like gangbusters.

Turnbolt - Mandella has an uncoupled entry, this one by far will be the higher odds horse; his race two back puts him right there.

Long Shot - Ramsgate

Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds and up

Threeatonce - Mullins is having a terrible meet and over the Cushion track that he trains on; drops this one to stop the bleeding.

Fantasmin - Claimed and dropped by Carava, a red flag for many, a possible winning move here; Chavez will put him into the race.

Long Shot - Barron H

Race 6 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $24,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Accrue - Talamo riding this major league drop down for Hofmans; ran miserably in last, but his prior races can compete in here.

Away Down South - Mullins could win back to back after starting the meet poorly; young Baze has become one of his main go to riders.

Long Shot - Marquis Form

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf), $100,000 Senorita, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Honnete - Got roughed up something fierce last time, can make amends despite the class rise; like that Flores riding for Drysdale.

Valbenny - Tepid chalk is a dead late closer in an incredibly well balanced field; you may need to go deep in the pick six.

Long Shot - Super Freaky

Race 8 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

La Serenata - Ran miserably last time out going around 2-turns; if you're a forgiving handicapper, her race two back can win this.

Mysweetdistraction - Not big on the rail post leaving the deep chute in this elongated sprint; tactical speed to sit a trip.

Long Shot - Gold Datnoid

Race 9 - 1 1/2 miles (turf), $250,000 Jim Murray Memorial Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Notable Guest - Frankel figures to be dangerous in this short marathon field; this guy has underachieved, but has the talent.

On the Acorn - Is wheeled right back off a sharp graded stakes win on grass; figures to garner a lot of public sentiment.

Long Shot - Prospect Park

Race 10 - 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Miss Maisy - Ward continuing his domination of the baby race series; adding blinkers on, he wants to win now and hires Talamo.

Mighty Fine Wine - Didn't run much in her debut, but Harrington babies improve a lot second time out; need not be much to compete.

Long Shot - Quiet Leader

Best Bet - Big Jon (race 3)

Hollywood Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/5/$31.00; Long Shots, 8/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.80

Hollywood Totals - 215/51/$353.60; Long Shots, 108/12/$156.60; Best Bets, 13/5/$20.60
