HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 5 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Dixieland Easy - You'll have a big advantage over me because you can see the tote board action; like the win early pedigree.
Whatever Whenever - Tepid chalk has shown some good early lick in the a.m.; like that big name rider Nakatani takes the call.
Long Shot - Johnny Smith
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Mon Queen - Took plenty of bet action in debut, off slowly but found her best stride late; expect improvement in second start.
Unusual Jane - Tepid chalk has had nine chances to graduate, getting a bit long in the tooth; horses run for bugboy Talamo.
Long Shot - California Demon
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Cherokee Tear - Baffert has an uncoupled entry, this is the longer priced odds of the duo; exiting many fast bullet workouts.
Silver Light - Tepid chalk in one of the hardest races on the card; runs fast for this level, but lacks a killer instinct.
Long Shot - Southern Man
Race 4 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $51,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds
Vauquelin - Didn't handle the Cushion track too well last time; returns to turf where he's stakes placed facing much tougher.
Robbos Courage - Did everything but win last time in a brutal head bob loss; suspect he does not need the lead to succeed.
Long Shot - Parko
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Golden Royal - Dead late closer should see a friendly fast pace scenario to chase; Baze looking better with each passing day.
Coyote Fast - Quick horse has been away a full year; he's a 6-YO with only four career starts, says something about his health.
Long Shot - Pressthepace
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $51,000, 3-year-olds and up
El Manuel - Made an auspicious U.S. debut win, then was flattered when it soon became a key race; could be any kind of horse.
Your Tent or Mine - Highly regarded colt returning from a 17-month hiatus; this elongated sprint may be his best distance.
Long Shot - Grand Point
Race 7 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $49,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
My Man Murf - This colt has more grit and determination than talent; love horses like this that fight every step of the way.
Medzendeekron - Sure to be overbet upon exiting a daylight MSW win 10-months ago; if he needs the race, you'll know it late.
Long Shot - Rock'n U S A
Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, $150,000 Hollywood Breeders' Cup Oaks, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Silver Swallow - Lost to Ashley's Kitty in the Railbird, but she may have been best; her only bad race came on the grass.
Ashley's Kitty - Upset winner of the Railbird, now must prove her mettle around 2-turns; was 17-1 in last, much shorter today.
Long Shot - Tough Tiz's Sis
Race 9 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $13,000, Claiming $8,000, 4-year-olds and up
Hudson Bank - Making his third start off a 2-month hiatus; sliding down the claiming ladder, this is his cheapest class yet.
Reel 'Em In - Tepid chalk in a wide open bottom level claimer; like the rider switch to bugboy Talamo for the money shot.
Long Shot - Traffic Update
Best Bet - Vauquelin (race 4)
Hollywood Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/4/$27.40; Long Shots, 10/1/$7.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.00
Hollywood Totals - 602/139/$893.40; Long Shots, 294/40/$426.80; Best Bets, 35/15/$59.40
