TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds
Holy Lark - Dead late closer taking a signficant class drop to face much easier tonight; Solis need only a clear path home.
Las Vegas Lucky - Showed more spunk on the front end in last; that was under the lights, may be heading the right direction.
Long Shot - Scoonerwharfbardog
Race 2 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Ocean Melody - Choice strictly by a process of elimination; like the turn back in distance, has tactical speed to sit a trip.
Dennybuck - Made a sharp middle move in last before tiring in the final furlong; turn back in distance will help him too.
Long Shot - Warren's Charm
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Steven's Being - Exiting a tougher spot for this easier race condition; will enjoy the slower early pace of this 2-turn route.
Arroyo Trabuco - Ellis barn has been en fuego this entire meet; stretching out around 2-turns for the first time, careful.
Long Shot - Barclay Drive
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Siberzar - Taking a stand against the chalk, this long shot should be flying fast late; I like Delgadillo on price horses.
Warren's Pepe - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; only beaten 4-lengths in last facing better.
Long Shot - Royal Robert
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $49,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Alpine Jewel - Her two Cushion track races are both fast enough to beat these; tactical speed and post to sit a nice trip.
Song and a Wager - Ran a career best race by far last time in her Cushion track debut; we'll see if she can close fast today.
Long Shot - Tiz Next
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
Ridingwiththeking - Dead late closer has run the best races of his brief career over Cushion track; keep an eye on him late.
Natural Phenomenon - Claimed by O'Neill off a beaten chalk effort last time; turning back in distance for tonight's sprint.
Long Shot - Indian Weaver
Race 7 - 1 1/8th miles, Purse $55,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 4-year-olds and up
Courtly Jazz - Taking a big class drop to face this group; evenly matched field will turn this into a riders race, top value.
Oceanus - Dead late closer tactics in one incredibly difficult race; Avila sprinter is exiting a bullet workout, more value.
Long Shot - Go Go Dancer
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Flip the Penny - Third start off a 9-month hiatus; consistent sort has been in the money in all seven lifetime starts.
Heather's Echo - Where he came up with his monster race last time, I don't know; if he repeats it he can be right there.
Long Shot - Beyond the Rim
Best Bet - Holy Lark (race 1)
Hollywood Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$20.00; Long Shots, 7/1/$6.80; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Totals - 651/151/$968.00; Long Shots, 318/44/$455.40; Best Bets, 38/16/$63.60
