HORSE RACING
April 26, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $55,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Forest Huntress - Speedball figures to be first in line again in a small field; beat a good filly Igraine in last, the one to catch.
Quiet Kim - She has a lot of back class, but has not raced in 8-months; this is not her target, she'll sit midpack and run on late.
Long Shot - Musical Echo
Race 2 - 4 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
Siphon the Kitty - Tepid chalk ran a winning race last time at Bay Meadows; of the ones with experience, he's most likely to run big.
Kris the Red - FTS is one of those Swiss Yodeler get from Harrington that should be cranked up early; the tote board could be talking.
Long Shot - Bloody Mary at T's
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $60,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Dealer Choice - Frankel got him some minor black type in NoCal, smart enough not to overreach today; saves all the ground inside.
Porfido - Part of an uncoupled Frankel entry, and more importantly, the longer odds horse; like that white hot Talamo is riding.
Long Shot - Fast and Furious
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
Barclay Drive - Pupye adding blinkers on for this dirt route; hasn't shown a drop of early speed so the goal is to get involved earlier.
Up in the Gods - Ran miserably in his seasonal debut; often times you need to be a forgiving handicapper, can rebound at good odds.
Long Shot - Princely Gift
Race 5 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Squeeze Me Tight - Chance to sit a perfect stalking trip off the main speed Pindaric; is based at Hollywood and may prefer home cooking.
Pindaric - Speedy sort returning off a 10-month sabbatical; Espinoza will need the others to take back and let her set a soft pace.
Long Shot - Moogie
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Bernina Beauty - Ran a winning race for this class level last time out; overcame a parking lot post 10 to lead in midstretch.
Steve's Lil Girl - Knapp wins a lot of races on the drop down, just like this; will see a much slower early pace than last time out.
Long Shot - C. C.'s Deelite
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $55,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
Soul City Slew - Exiting a very tough race where he closed as best he could; will see another fast pace today, but expect some progress.
Jack's Kid - Logical chalk is strictly the one to beat; lost to Turnbolt who clunked out in a weekend stakes, facing easier here.
Long Shot - Corazondelcampeon
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Flying Spy - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; should be fit exiting turf races, good tactical speed.
Neutrality - Another dropping in class from MSW to claiming; classic pop and stop in last off a 10-month hiatus, expect improvement.
Long Shot - Visual Metaphor
Best Bet - Squeeze Me Tight (race 5)
Hollywood Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$31.20; Long Shots, 7/1/$39.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Final Totals - 1,416/374/$2,451.00; Long Shots, 705/76/$1,043.80; Best Bets, 81/32/$128.20
