June 21, 2007 - 9:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1:20 p.m.
Race 1 - 5 furlongs, Purse $26,000, Maiden claiming $62,500, 2-year-olds
Bond - Didn't run a step in MSW debut, but had excuses early; O'Neill puts on the blinkers and main man Baze for improvement.
Verlander - Like the Tigers ace pitcher, they hope he throws hard and fast; from a sharp Miller barn, watch the tote board.
Long Shot - Nene
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Larue - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; most of her experience has come over the greensward.
Robot Woman - Stretching out for the first time around 2-turns; suspect she could show more early speed if Baze wants too.
Long Shot - La Beau Em
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $37,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Ces't Mark - Making his first start under a new barn, been working great for Palma; we'll see if she wakes up facing easier.
Omi's Back - Wouldn't like her normally except that Nakatani takes the call on this slowpoke; she is taking a class drop.
Long Shot - Unusual Jane
Race 4 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
No Means Maybe - FTS from the O'Neill barn debuts in a very soft spot; the Tommy Town connections like to win first time out.
Warren's Year - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; like that Nakatani is taking the call here too.
Long Shot - Ibesmokin
Race 5 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $44,000, Claiming $62,500, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Miss Josiey Wales - Mullins barn is on a roll, and part of it is placing horses where they can win; she has good tactical speed.
Black Hills Goldie - Claimed by Eurton and spotted nicely to compete; will save all the ground inside and try her best late.
Long Shot - Beyond the Mark
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up
Lone Prairie - Beat a much softer group in last, but is capable of running even better tonight; the Mig will make one big run.
Swedish Radar - Chalk has the back class and current form to compete; claimed by Marlow, second start off an 11-month layoff.
Long Shot - McNasty
Race 7 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
Only One Way - Sharp NoCal win and now he travels south to face tougher; has run strong in all four starts this season.
Cigar Pal - Gets needed class relief after trailing in a couple stakes races; second start off a year hiatus, can improve.
Long Shot - Gray Black N White
Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Beware the Wolf - Can't see how you can have confidence in any of the chalks; longest price in the race has a puncher's chance.
Unbridled Harmony - If you're live in the place pick 8, he's a decent chance to hit the mark; closer will grind it out late.
Long Shot - Oro de Ole'
Best Bet - Miss Josiey Wales (race 5)
Hollywood Wednesday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/4/$22.20; Long Shots, 8/1/$9.40; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.60
Hollywood Totals - 717/163/$1,068.60; Long Shots, 350/47/$487.40; Best Bets, 42/17/$68.20
