HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 7:05 p.m.

Race 1 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), $75,000 Captain Squire Handicap, 3-year-olds

Noble Court - Been away 4-months since winning the San Vicente; this is a prep race for bigger fish, has loads of talent though.

Luis' Especial - He's proven on Cushion track and turf sprints; will be tested for class facing a small, but select field.

Long Shot - Quintons Shocker

Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $51,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Moonlit Habit - Ran poorly in last returning from a 10-month hiatus; suspect the screws will be tighter this time around.

Big Bad Leroybrown - Dead late closer is stretching out around 2-turns for the first time; proven Cushion track performer.

Long Shot - General Bueno

Race 3 - 5 furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Lil Nugget - The only starter to have won last time out; she certainly has enough back class to put in a repeat effort.

I'maladytak - Second start off the claim by Monteleone; was overmatched in last, class drop will put her into the hunt.

Long Shot - Bye Sweetie

Race 4 - 7 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up

Eagle Ridge - Was making a strong move turning for home when stopped cold by a quitting leader; should love today's distance.

Surfer Kris - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to claiming; need not be much to win this elongated sprint.

Long Shot - Truckee Lite

Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $20,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Here Comes Ray Ray - Among many taking a significant class drop in search of victory; suspect will find his best stride late.

Blushing Bear Cat - Miserable effort last time, Knight adding blinkers on tonight; leap of faith that Baze likes his chances.

Long Shot - Four Four Two

Race 6 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up

Bad Boy - He is strictly the one to beat in a very slow looking field; he's lost nine times already, so he is no sure thing.

Tanner's Rocket - This is a pop and stop candidate who will show a lot of early speed; Garcia will need to slow down the pace.

Long Shot - Hibernian Prince

Race 7 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $37,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

Categorize - Late closing sprinter has been unlucky not to win in SoCal; big rider switch to Nakatani for the money shot.

Charmin Dot - She has been ultra consistent in her last five starts; she won facing this class horse three races ago.

Long Shot - Spy Aly

Race 8 - 6 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Stays in Vegas - Speedy sort gave it up last time in the shadow of the wire; Nakatani could secure a big Friday night here.

San Lameer - Logical chalk ran well last time in a much improved effort; Baze figures to sit and grind it out in the lane.

Long Shot - Capture the Cat

Best Bet - Eagle Ridge (race 4)

Hollywood Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/2/$10.80; Long Shots, 8/2/$19.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00

Hollywood Totals - 814/191/$1,259.40; Long Shots, 395/56/$589.20; Best Bets, 48/21/$92.00
