HORSE RACING

TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time Noon

Race 1 - 1 mile (turf), $75,000 Korbel Handicap, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

Super Strut - Dollase taking the blinkers off trying to end a season long winless streak; he has been facing many of these.

Jack's Wild - Dead late closer will need a fast pace to do his best in the lane; has the right rider, Blanc, to sit a trip.

Long Shot - Exceeding

Race 2 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $60,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

Slam Slew - Logical chalk ran fast enough to beat these last time out in debut; similar effort today makes him double tough.

Many Rivers - FTS by Storm Cat is owned and trained by Hollendorfer; he's shown quickness in the a.m., would be no surprise.

Long Shot - Golden Gorilla

Race 3 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $70,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up

Heatseeker - Frankel brought Talamo out west, but is not the source of his many winners; finally the duo has a live one here.

Gem Proof - Tough luck horse could have won any of his last four starts with any racing luck; Valdivia will ride with patience.

Long Shot - Sydney Again

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $62,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

True Xena - She was highly regarded as a 2-YO, note a strong stakes placing in her second career start; she's a square price.

Time Tosay Goodbye - Logical chalk still has yet to be tested for class; this is a solid group in a first level allowance.

Long Shot - Meetmeinthewoods

Race 5 - 1 1/8th miles (turf), $250,000 American Invitational Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

The Tin Man - Amazing 9-YO is running as well now as he did as a 4-YO; new tactics in last where he settled off the pace.

Out of Control - Frankel seldom throws a horse into the deep end of the swimming pool, unless its ready; he's a square price.

Long Shot - Becrux

Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Golden Royal - Dead late closer will have a chance to upset at high odds; the elongated sprint distance will really suit him.

Smart Hit - Ran too good to lose last time in a 2-turn mile in Arcadia; is turning back in distance, also a chance to upset.

Long Shot - Twin Turbo

Race 7 - 6 furlongs, $100,000 Landaluce, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Elocution - Asmussen does not ship to SoCal for the scenery; this filly looks like a runner and Flores is given the honors.

Treadmill - Sharp debut winner from the Dollase barn; was no secret as the post time favorite, will sit and rally hard late.

Long Shot - My Little Cokie

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles (turf), Purse $62,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Foreign - Ran a spectacular debut considering she spotted the field 20-lengths; if she breaks OK, Flores has an easier job.

Just Knock - Tepid chalk has had some chances, but has not been disgraced; Solis figures to take her further back for one run.

Long Shot - Tabarin

Race 9 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $62,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

Blowout - Words don't describe how hot the Ellis barn is this meet; this guy lost to the classy Peace Chant last time out.

Only in Reno - Baffert 5-YO returned from a 30-month hiatus with a tremendous try; fear is if he bounces from the stress.

Long Shot - Kapalua Bay

Race 10 - 1 1/4 miles, $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup, 3-year-olds and up

Lava Man - A great storyline if the two old-men, Lava Man and The Tin Man, can both win; took the lead too early last time.

Molengao - Playing the main role as the possible spoiler; gave Lava Man all he could handle in the Santa Anita Handicap.

Long Shot - A. P. Arrow

Race 11 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $60,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Ancient Tale - Was well bet as the favorite in her debut; ran a strong race dueling on the front end, she tired very late.

Awesome Feat - Typical Mandella FTS was slow early, then finished fast late; will get overbet expecting improvement today.

Long Shot - Kula Girl

Best Bet - Elocution (race 7)

Hollywood Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/2/$10.80; Long Shots, 8/2/$19.60; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.00

Hollywood Totals - 814/191/$1,259.40; Long Shots, 395/56/$589.20; Best Bets, 48/21/$92.00
