HORSE RACING
November 14, 2010 - 12:00 am
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $20,000, Claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Never - Among many class droppers in the route race; likes synthetics, the distance and Hollywood.
5 Asperity - Hard to ignore any mount Rafael Bejarano has in SoCal; he squeezes more from the lemon than anyone.
Long Shot - 7 Capture the Call
Race 2 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
1 Papa Lev - To say he's not big on winning is an understatement; saves ground and grinds from the rail.
2 Absolutlypositivly - Despite running for a price tag in his last 3 starts, this is hardly a class rise.
Long Shot - 5 Le' Heat
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Irrefutable - Second start off a 10-month hiatus, can the early pick 3 be 1-1-1?; heavily favored in both career starts.
3 Pack Your Bags - Claimed by Eddie Truman off a sharp win; good sign that Rafael Bejarano wants to ride him right back.
Long Shot - 6 Mensa Heat
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $12,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
1 Warrens Highroller - Fourth favorite from the rail tonight; sliding down the claiming ladder to this low level.
2 Mystery Bird - Was flattered when Misinjennuous won next out on Saturday; tactical speed to sit a good trip.
Long Shot - 4 Ellie L
Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, Fillies, 2-year-olds
5 Wild and Gotaway - The maestro Jerry Hollendorfer adding blinkers on; a bigger chance may be in Joel Rosario.
4 Don't Tell Me That - Another favorite ridden by Rafael Bejarano; taking a big class drop from MSW to maiden claiming.
Long Shot - 7 Mrs. Card
Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $12,000, Claiming $8,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Dee Dee's Legacy - This is as wide open a scrum as you'll find; exits 2 straight wins while dropping in class.
12 Quoted - Disappointing run in last on the class drop; his prior races are all fast enough to upset these.
Long Shot - 5 Figeac
Race 7 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $29,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
6 Paleo - Usually like inside posts in Inglewood turf sprints; Doug O'Neill cull runs first time for a price tag.
10 Rote - Would like her better except this parking lot post; has early speed and P Val to overcome the post.
Long Shot - 8 Cruzin Topless
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, $55,000 Playa del Rey, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Subsidized - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry; this is the longer odds horse, keep an eye on the favorite Mother Ruth.
7 Mother Ruth - She'll get a lion's share of the attention; perfect in 2 starts at Hollywood, she adores synthetics.
Long Shot - 3 Sister Dawn
Race 9 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
4 Orangeblackandgold - Hated the synthetics when the race was switched from turf; suspect she is much better on grass.
2 Mrs Rosa - FTS from Richard Mandella who typically is not known for pushing his babies; watch the tote board for clues.
Long Shot - 7 My Diane
Best Bet - 1 Never (race 1)
Hollywood Park Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/6/$32.60; Long Shots, 9/2/$20.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Park Totals - 113/35/$201.00; Long Shots, 55/11/$94.60; Best Bets, 7/2/$8.60
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - 8 Early Return (6/1) in race 9 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, The Marikutana ran third at Calder paying $5.00 to show. Stats - 188/137/$1,046.50
