HORSE RACING
November 4, 2010 - 11:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:15 p.m.
Race 1 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Gumption - Like the parking lot post in this elongated sprint; stalking trip for this big drop-down horse.
1 Samba School - Hate the rail from the chute, but this filly has some ability; won her only start on Inglewood synthetics.
Long Shot - 3 Malusita
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $26,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
2 Gilligan - Looks like the favorites tonight will all be drop-down horses; clearly the one to beat if she has 4 wheels.
3 Milty Way - Doug O'Neill has an uncoupled entry so caveat emptor; sharp win in last over a nothing field.
Long Shot - 5 Came Aboard
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
5 Silver Luna - Among the ones with experience, she looks much the best; morning-line chalk may improve a step, too.
7 Hot Ticket - Hopefully Corey Nakatani can make some hay while the top guns are at Churchill this week; live shot in here.
Long Shot - 2 Simple Truth
Race 4 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $12,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up
5 Dana Dynamo - Another chalk in an uninspiring program; dead-late closer is better on synthetics than turf or dirt.
4 Cookie Rules - Another deep closer will always be at the mercy of the pace; hopes someone goes with Southern Victory.
Long Shot - Southern Victory
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds
2 Family Plan - Did everything but win last time in a solid try; Tom Proctor taking the blinkers off, Corey Nakatani on.
4 Weekend Party - Brice Blanc takes over for Nakatani here; well bet in both career starts, these are his friends.
Long Shot - 7 Anniversary Girl
Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $20,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Brenthurst - Tiny edge in a race where the horses all look the same; second race off the claim by Ted West.
3 Afleet Deal - Speedball tactics under Martin Pedroza; expect him to play catch me if you can in a no-passing-zone race.
Long Shot - 7 Galleta Monstruo
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 20 feet), $55,000 Riot In Paris, 3-year-olds and up
3 Muny - His 3-of-6 wins on turf makes him a giant in this field; when Mike Mitchell gets them good, they stay good a while.
2 Red Door Drive - Not big on winning grass races, but he has run some decent tries; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
Long Shot - 4 Blue Chagall
Race 8 - 5 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Emerald Assets - Taking the biggest class drop in horse racing from MSW to maiden claiming; adding blinkers on for this.
5 Wisest Cat - Another dropping in class from MSW to maiden claiming; need not be much to compete with these.
Long Shot - 7 Big Bad Boo
Best Bet - 2 Gilligan (race 2)
Hollywood Park Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/3/$13.60; Long Shots, 9/2/$25.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Oak Tree Final Totals - 368/98/$693.00; Long Shots, 176/26/$242.40; Best Bets, 22/9/$34.40
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #4 Awesome Feather (6/1) in race 8 at Churchill Downs. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Allie's Event ran out at Churchill Downs. Stats - 183/132/$1,006.70
