HORSE RACING

TODAY AT OAK TREE AT HOLLYWOOD PARK

By Richard Eng

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds

5 Just Imagine - Exits the grade 1 Del Mar Futurity for this MSW; blinkers off, was a beaten favorite in first two starts.

2 Jakesam - Was flattered in last when Clubhouse Ride won right back; sprinter stretching out, should have good tactical speed.

Long Shot - 3 Lagoon of Diamonds

Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

3 Big Bad Boo - Was scratched from opening night for this much softer spot; expect another solid meet from P Val.

4 Red Defense - FTS was made morning-line favorite for Carla Gaines; not one of her better babies in debut for a price tag.

Long Shot - 1 Absolutlypositivly

Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, 2-year-olds

6 Ride Candy Ride - Exits a much tougher MSW to try maiden claimers again; switch from turf and turns back in distance.

2 What's the Rumpus - Another turning back in distance from 3 turns at Fairplex; tactical speed to sit close to the pace.

Long Shot - 3 Swiss Hero

Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

4 Movie Duty - Very sharp this summer and appears to love Inglewood; plenty of speed to lead or sit right there.

3 Yankee Romance - Reunited with Martin Garcia; prefers to run on the lead, which could test the favorite early on.

Long Shot - 7 Can't Topper

Race 5 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $29,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

1a Pack Your Bags - There is plenty of early speed to set up his closing style; Rafael Bejarano will sit and fire late.

6 Leandros - Beaten cheaper in last over Del Mar turf; this $40K price tag is the top of his class ceiling now, in good form.

Long Shot - 3 El Scorpio

Race 6 - 7 furlongs, Purse $11,000, Claiming $12,500, 3-year-olds and up

5 Best Affair - Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; speed to lead and play catch me if you can.

3 Rathman - Sharp maiden claiming win with first time blinkers on; still could improve while others look mediocre.

Long Shot - 9 Iotabgray

Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $40,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up

7 Scofield Barracks - Dead-late closer finally broke through in last; like a cold quinella with the chalk Inverness Cape.

8 Inverness Cape - No secret in winning debut when bet down to a 2/1 favorite; high speed to lead these wire-to-wire.

Long Shot - 2 Leothelion

Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 10 feet), Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

9 Papa Lev - Tepid choice in a wide-open affair; the beauty of horse racing is one of these lucky underachievers will win.

5 Sammartino - Just missed last time in a solid effort; 6-of-7 in the money, easily lacks a killer instinct to finish the job.

Long Shot - 3 The Unusual One

Best Bet - 6 Ride Candy Ride (race 3)

Oak Tree Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/4/$22.00; Long Shots, 7/1/$14.60; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Oak Tree Totals - 17/4/$22.00; Long Shots, 7/1/$14.60; Best Bets, 1/0/$0

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - 1 Driven by Success (9/5) in race 8 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Charlies Swell was no bet, Belmont Park canceled racing. Stats - 163/117/$887.80
