HORSE RACING
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $17,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
1 Marquet Rebel - Steve Knapp is having a miserable meet to cap a tough year; this guy may be the only horse running late.
5 Forest Prince - Sprinter stretching out is sure to try for the early lead; has not run this distance in a long, long time.
Long Shot - 3 Milty Way
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds
4 Summers At Delmar - Won and ran a lower Beyer rating, an angle I like to bet; dead late closer loves the synthetics.
2 Camicory - Sharp win for Jeff Mullins in last; like that Rafael Bejarano subbing for Martin Garcia who is still in Mexico.
Long Shot - 3 Canthavehim
Race 3 - 1 1/16th miles (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $27,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
5 Startjumpin Marnie - Her one turf try was not bad and faced a decent field; she likes to win races, a good thing.
6 Madeline Ruby - Her two tough beats are either the glass half full or half empty argument; she definitely fits with these.
Long Shot - 4 Dextera
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Margie Blackjack - In a race this slow, the FTS must be studied closely; you have the edge of seeing the tote board.
3 Finish Rich in Nyc - Logical chalk off a race two back fast enough to beat these; has plenty of early speed to lead.
Long Shot - 6 Bila Shaka
Race 5 - 6 furlongs (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $44,000, Optional claiming $62,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Broken Dreams - The lone mount for Garrett Gomez on the card; lost to the well meant Reba Is Tops who won right back.
5 Folk Dancer - Gutsy win last time, but has proven she does not need the lead to succeed; tactical speed for P Val to utilize.
Long Shot - 1 Softly Singing
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 Look to the Sky - Huge rider switch to Corey Nakatani from a 10-pound bugboy; appears to be sitting on a big race.
5 Rev Her Up - Whoever says Rafael Bejarano does not make a difference on a horse is not watching; will be grinding late.
Long Shot - 6 Popular Date
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 20 feet), Purse $29,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
2 Tommy's Pick - Speedball could be tough to catch with the turf rail out 20 feet; plays catch me if you can.
3 L'Enchanteresse - She is 0-for-14 on grass, but loves to run second and third; enough gumption to hang on for a share.
Long Shot - 5 Jana Gail
Race 8 - 5 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
2 Brutally Handsome - No chance he'll be 5/1 odds; his last race, if repeated, would absolutely crush these.
7 Gifted Student - Been well bet in three losing efforts; has lots of speed in a no passing zone affair.
Long Shot - 5 Make It a Cougar
Best Bet - 3 Broken Dreams (race 5)
Hollywood Park Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/4/$14.60; Long Shots, 10/1/$6.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$2.40
Hollywood Park Totals - 272/79/$440.60; Long Shots, 134/24/$237.40; Best Bets, 16/6/$20.60
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #4 Black Pen (9/5) in race 8 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Aphrodite Storm ran third at Parx Racing paying $2.10 to show. Stats - 197/141/$1,078.10
