HORSE RACING
July 3, 2010 - 11:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $8,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Wada Falls - Just missed last time in a solid effort; there isn't much speed in here so her job might be easier tonight.
Stroppy - Good even try in last off a 9-month hiatus; Julio Canani mare has every right to improve under Martin Pedroza.
Long Shot - Dumaani's Gold
Race 2 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Live and Love - Filly from WinStar Farms is bred to go 2 turns; expect improvement with experience and more distance.
Saint Isabelle - Tepid chalk in a wide-open race; bested many of these in last, but not by a whole lot.
Long Shot - Fashion Trend
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds and up
Cajun Gent - Solid second in last off a 2-month hiatus; tactical speed to lead or follow close up.
Capt. Sparrow - Claimed by Jack Carava off a lousy race at Golden Gate; he's better than that and has some back class.
Long Shot - Bonfante
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $16,600, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Maddyaboutyou - Like the rail to save ground in this route race; has good tactical speed to protect her inside position.
Afleet Breeze - Tepid chalk has a disadvantage of a parking lot post; key will be for Rafael Bejarano to move inside.
Long Shot - Real Obvious
Race 5 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $36,000, Claiming $50,000, 3-year-olds
Format V - Should see plenty of speed to his inside; Rafael Bejarano can sit a trip and grind it out late.
Grace Upon Grace - Tepid chalk has finished in the money in 3 straight Inglewood turf sprints; eligible for another paycheck.
Long Shot - Daylight Storm
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $46,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
Guns On The Table - Recent form is a big edge over those prepping for Del Mar off a long layoff; from Bob Baffert barn too.
Truest Legend - Private purchase last summer showed unlimited potential; has tons of gas, put him on the engine.
Long Shot - Hard Bill
Race 7 - 1 1/8th miles (turf), $150,000 American Handicap, 3-year-olds and up
Global Hunter - Ran like a short horse in the Shoemaker; switch to Brice Blanc, he should show improvement in here.
Compari - He is a need-the-lead type runner to succeed; was unable to get to the top in the Shoemaker, sells out today.
Long Shot - Riviera Cocktail
Race 8 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $44,000, Allowancem, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Pure Class - Third start off a 7-month hiatus; she has been a classic underachiever, but I know the barn likes her.
Kayce Ace - Was third, but in another area code, last time; big rider switch to Rafael Bejarano for the money shot.
Long Shot - Hard Way Ten
Race 9 - 5 furlongs (turf), Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
D'pendable - FTS from the white hot Bob Baffert barn; the jocks ride hard for Baffert trying to curry his favor.
American Wildcat - Second best as a beaten favorite in 2 starts; Victor Espinoza takes over to try and finish the deal.
Long Shot - Robie the Cat
Best Bet - Maddyaboutyou (race 4)
Hollywood Park Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/7/$74.20; Long Shots, 10/1/$7.00; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Hollywood Park Totals - 809/232/$1,500.60; Long Shots, 397/45/$523.60; Best Bets, 48/28/$112.60
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #4 Enumerate (7/2) in race 2 at Monmouth Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Saturday, Rasher was scratched at Monmouth Park. Stats - 121/87/$629.10
