HORSE RACING

TODAY AT DEL MAR

By Richard Eng

Post Time 2 p.m.

Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $24,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up

Self Insured - Flattered when Skippy Due won next out; like that Rafael Bejarano remains loyal to the cause.

Magnificent Blend - Exits a sharp win, got claimed by Blake Heap; key question is can he repeat that fast race.

Long Shot - Capt. Sparrow

Race 2 - 1 mile, $75,000 Windy Sands Handicap, 3-year-olds and up

Low Gear Power - Upset chance with a lot of early speed in here; Corey Nakatani will sit back and make one run.

Red Door Drive - Get 2 for the price of 1 from Bob Baffert; one is a closer while this guy has tactical speed.

Long Shot - Informed

Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Dazzling Display - Solid career debut when second; any value will come from the jockey, not from Bob Baffert.

Tales in Excess - FTS from the maestro Jerry Hollendorfer; teams up with Joel Rosario, workouts are fast enough.

Long Shot - Tiz the Route

Race 4 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $57,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds

Sebastian Flyte - Interesting import makes U.S. debut versus a vanilla group; the winner is he has the fitness.

Deputy Max - Showing a lack of killer instinct with multiple seconds and thirds; seems to always cash a paycheck.

Long Shot - Very Fair

Race 5 - 6 furlongs, Purse $31,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Can't Topper - Should enjoy the extra furlong today, albeit on synthetic; tactical speed to for a wide stalking trip.

Movie Duty - Tepid chalk in another open affair; was running out of gas in last, but had enough to hold the lead.

Long Shot - Cosmic Angel

Race 6 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $50,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Born Lucky - FTS from the Mike Machowsky barn gets speed rider P Val; you have an edge of seeing the tote board action.

May Day Rose - Logical chalk of a second in a well bet debut; to me, she is strictly the one to beat.

Long Shot - Hey Maria

Race 7 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $48,000, Claiming $50,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds

Dreamed to Dream - Flattered when Westwood Pride won on Friday; Brian Koriner adds blinkers on and drops in class.

Sky Chant - Has improved a lot since switched to turf; by War Chant, how could this filly not like the grass?

Long Shot - Pulpit Magic

Race 8 - 7 furlongs, $250,000 Darley Debutante, Fillies, 2-year-olds

Tell a Kelly - Visually impressive MSW win with an inside sweeping move; should improve as the races get longer.

Sugarinthemorning - It's a frigid day at Del Mar when Ron McAnally wins with a FTS; shows this filly must have uber talent.

Long Shot - Izshelegal

Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $54,000, Optional claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up

Streakin' Mohican - Strong SoCal debut after exiting stakes at Northland Park; repeat race can win this.

Gallatin's Run - Taking the biggest class rise in racing facing winners for the first time; speed effort for Mike Mitchell.

Long shot - Nextdoorneighbor

Race 10 - 7 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up

Magic Lantern - Sliding down the maiden claiming ladder to this career low level; has already run fast enough to graduate.

Snovember - Tepid chalk figures to get overbet with Rafael Bejarano up; beaten favorite was grinding well late in last.

Long Shot - Princess Beau K

Best Bet - Dazzling Display (race 3)

Del Mar Friday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/3/$22.40; Long Shots, 7/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/0/$0

Del Mar Totals - 542/130/$849.60; Long Shots, 269/43/$434.00; Best Bets, 33/13/$59.40

SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #2 Nacho Saint (7/2) in race 11 at Monmouth Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Fuencia won at Monmouth Park paying $4.80 to win, $3.40 to place and $2.80 to show. Stats - 160/115/$867.20
