July 2, 2010 - 11:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds
Itsallaboutcharlie - Jeff Mullins cull is dropped to the lowest class of his life; need not be much to handle these.
Sky Searcher - Logical chalk is strictly the one to beat; his race two back if repeated will win this race tonight.
Long Shot - Towser
Race 2 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
Gotmymojoworkin - Just won for $20K, now shows up for $10K; that's a red flag for most, but John Sadler is very clever.
Swiss Ski - After being common most of his career, he's paired 2 nice wins; every chance to make it an equador in here.
Long Shot - Don't Answer
Race 3 - 6 furlongs, Purse $34,000, Claiming $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
Usurp - Red hot Ron Ellis barn has an uncoupled entry in here; word to the wise, keep on eye on long shot Valiant Effort.
Spirit of Cochise - This also has been a big meet for Jack Carava; this guy's last 4 races are fast enough to win this too.
Long Shot - Buck's Bro
Race 4 - 1 mile (turf), $150,000 Royal Heroine, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
U R All That I Am - Rafael Bejarano cannot be ignored in any big-money race; saves all the ground, grinds late for Jerry Hollendorfer.
Gotta Have Her - Logical chalk has run a cropper twice since a second in the BC Turf Sprint; are the batteries recharged yet?
Long Shot - Exquisite
Race 5 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,600, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
No Stadium - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; like the turn back in distance too.
Dana Dynamo - Another slumming after a long sequence of MSW tries; his better races have all come over synthetics.
Long Shot - Silver Style
Race 6 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $44,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds
Privilaged - I liked him last time and thought he ran OK; the slower pace of a grass mile will be more to his liking.
Face and an Ace - Has a tendency to be rank, so Paco Gonzalez takes the blinkers off; like Brice Blanc to settle for one run.
Long Shot - Jairzihno
Race 7 - 7 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,600, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Rockstar Ben - Like the turn back in distance from 2-turn routes to elongated sprint; will keep grinding late.
Kim's Leading Man - Was in good stride late in last off a 2-month hiatus; getting long in the tooth though.
Long Shot - Ned Page
Race 8 - 1 1/4 miles (turf), $250,000 American Oaks, Fillies, 3-year-olds
City to City - Not much separating the two favorites in the Oaks; like with most turf racing, it'll come down to the trip.
Andina - By far the weakest edition ever of the American Oaks; she flattened out in last, better with a target to chase.
Long Shot - Harmonious
Race 9 - 6 furlongs (turf), Purse $43,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Precious Union - Been away 6 months, but has a big trainer change; hot Ron Ellis takes over, expect major improvement in here.
Fleet Streak - Enigma has underachieved in 2 SoCal starts; draws the advantageous rail, could be her coming out party.
Long Shot - Come Home Quick
Race 10 - 7 furlongs, Purse $15,600, Maiden claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Warrens Matchmaker - Should be dead fit exiting 2 turf routes; like the turn back in distance to this elongated sprint.
Very Vintage - Tepid chalk in a difficult finale; has tactical speed and a long straight away to settle into stride.
Long Shot - Long Legged Lovely
Best Bet - No Stadium (race 5)
Hollywood Park Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/6/$38.40; Long Shots, 7/1/$20.0; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.20
Hollywood Park Totals - 709/202/$1,293.40; Long Shots, 347/38/$470.0; Best Bets, 42/24/$96.60
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #3 Rasher (7/2) in race 7 at Monmouth Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Hobbitontherocks ran second at Monmouth Park paying $2.80 to place and $2.20 to show. Stats - 120/86/$624.10
