HORSE RACING
June 30, 2010 - 11:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 7:05 p.m.
Race 1 - 5 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
Certainly Certain - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; showed speed, took money in debut.
Liquid Asset - Did a classic pop and stop in debut for $40K price tag; inside draw will help as well as Victor Espinoza.
Long Shot - Grand Maneuver
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Optional claiming $25,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Pack Your Bags - Dead late closer just missed last time out; shown good improvement in 2 starts off the claim by Jack Carava.
Detroit Donnie - Parking lot post is a negative in Inglewood turf sprints; note the dogleg left turn soon out of the box.
Long Shot - Danzing Tribal
Race 3 - 5 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, 2-year-olds
Bigmikeistheman - Was overmatched in last MSW after a solid debut for a $40K price tag; drops down to face his friends.
On a Hi - Beaten favorite has room to improve facing these again; David Flores will need a fast early pace to close into.
Long Shot - Wild and True
Race 4 - 6 furlongs, Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Carrie Rose - Anyone notice Mike Mitchell is winning at 40 percent this meet?; filly set fast fractions in last, can wire these.
Emotional Friend - FTS from the underrated Peter Miller barn; has bullet workouts, what caught my eye is Rafael Bejarano up.
Long Shot - Tiz a Bud Girl
Race 5 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $44,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Adam Suances - Just missed last time overcoming an onerous parking lot post 10; his synthetic races are better than sod tries.
Low Gear Power - Another Mike Mitchell claim that keeps moving up the class ladder; big improvement from a top claiming barn.
Long Shot - Mr Tokyo
Race 6 - 6 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
So Hottie - No excuse third in last off the claim by Melody Conlon; will be a much higher price with a 5-pound bugboy up.
Lyrical Goddess - Exits a stinker in last, her 2 races before that are both fast enough to upset; class drop can only help.
Long Shot - Hit the Brix
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 10 feet), $60,000 Le Cle, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Crisis of Spirit - Tries turf for the first time; has high cruising speed and will like the turf rail out 10 feet tonight.
Crisp - By measuring pure class, she is the one to beat; makes her turf debut for John Sadler, likely to wake up in here.
Long Shot - Glory Pride
Race 8 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,600, Maiden claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Single Shot - Clearly ran a winning race last time when rallied for second off a poor start; even start makes the difference.
Speedy Marini - Joe Talamo replacing Victor Espinoza who takes off to ride Single Shot; 3 thirds shows me no killer instinct.
Long Shot - Stormy Ambition
Best Bet - Pack Your Bags (race 2)
Hollywood Park Sunday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/5/$23.20; Long Shots, 9/2/$16.20; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.20
Hollywood Park Totals - 388/111/$702.60; Long Shots, 191/18/$212.20; Best Bets, 23/12/$53.20
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #3 Fight For V L T's (8/5) in race 8 at Belmont Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Oskar Hval won at Belmont Park paying $10.40 to win, $5.30 to place and $3.30 to show. Stats - 119/86/$624.10
