HORSE RACING
June 25, 2010 - 11:00 pm
TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 7 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Ninth Infantry - Ran evenly in last, but the race I like was her good second two back; a repeat of that can upset these.
Word Association - Tepid chalk in a wide open race; last out graduate is facing winners for the first time.
Long Shot - L'Enchanteresse
Race 2 - 6 furlongs, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Suances de Espana - Ran third versus superior foes in last; big class drop and similar try could trounce these.
Found in Dark - Speed effort was second best at Golden Gate; ships to SoCal but is clearly not outclassed.
Long Shot - Wada Falls
Race 3 - 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds and up
Devour - None of the horses with experience look good to me; FTS from Doug O'Neill, he has an uncoupled entry in here.
Baby Tate - Another FTS, this one from the clever Jeff Mullins barn; is bred top and bottom to be quick and win early.
Long Shot - Actual Size
Race 4 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $32,000, Claiming $32,000, 3-year-olds
Otto Von Voom - Ran evenly in SoCal debut; had trouble in a key point in the race, can better with the drop in class too.
Diplo - Hard knocker has run second in both turf starts; he is always sniffing around for a share of the pot.
Long Shot - Saravas Wild Again
Race 5 - 7 furlongs, Purse $43,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Valkyrie Missile - Exits an impressive bullet workout; proven best as a 1-turn sprinter, tactical speed to sit a good trip.
Derive - Logical chalk hasn't proven whether he wants to win or not; off the turf, he too has good tactical speed.
Long Shot - Equiparado
Race 6 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $44,000, Allowance, 3-year-olds and up
Bring It Home - Dead late closer has teased at being a good one on grass; second start under Joe Talamo, expect improvement.
Shediak - Bested Bring It Home in last at 14/1 odds; dead late closer is another who will need some pace to chase.
Long Shot - Self Made
Race 7 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $41,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds and up
Capital Account - Bob Baffert has an uncoupled entry; suspect one of the two will win, keep an eye on Global Domination.
Gallatin's Run - Heavy chalk is returning off an 11-month hiatus; from the white-hot Mike Mitchell barn, main question is fitness.
Long Shot - Global Domination
Race 8 - 1 1/4 miles (turf), $100,000 Beverly Hills Handicap, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Turning Top - Three narrow turf route wins point to a budding star filly; has gritty rallies to win in slow- and fast-paced races.
General Consensus - Logical chalk gets a huge rider switch to Rafael Bejarano for the money shot; overdue to bust through tonight.
Long Shot - Princess Haya
Race 9 - 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up
Prince of Gotham - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; ran first time with blinkers on in last.
Bold Type - Tepid chalk in an open affair; did everything but win in last, tries blinkers on tonight for Sean McCarthy.
Long Shot - Inflatable Dreams
Best Bet - Otto Von Voom (race 4)
Hollywood Park Thursday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 16/6/$38.40; Long Shots, 7/1/$20.0; Best Bet, 1/1/$3.60
Hollywood Park Totals - 709/202/$1,293.40; Long Shots, 347/38/$470.0; Best Bets, 42/24/$96.60
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #5 La Mousse (7/5) in race 6 at Monmouth Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Friday, Ever a Friend ran second at Monmouth Park paying $2.60 to place and $2.40 to show. Stats - 116/83/$592.90
