HORSE RACING
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 - 5 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Brookie Girl - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; lots of gaps in her brief career.
Paulasahorseonya - FTS from Kathy Walsh exits a bullet workout; the key vote for me is from Joel Rosario, leap of faith.
Long Shot - Flashy Traveler
Race 2 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $14,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds and up
Absolute Glory - Of 2 main closers, I like him more because of his tactical speed; will be grinding hard late.
Camisado - Logical chalk runs second off the claim by Melody Conlon; proven to be a synthetic surface specialist.
Long Shot - Candy Arches
Race 3 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $46,000, Maiden special weights, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Torrey Cliffs - Shown improvement off the claim by Steve Knapp; her race 2 back is fast enough to beat these.
Foxy Approval - Her turf races are a little bit better than synthetics; like that Joel Rosario sees fit to ride.
Long Shot - Spanish Bunny
Race 4 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $13,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Fiona Friend - Makes her first start under James Lloyd; ran an OK third last time off a 3-month freshening.
A Sassy Fusaichi - Been away 10-months, but has speed and ability on her resume; watch the tote board for clues.
Long Shot - Princess Susan M
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $40,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Tamerin - Mike Mitchell has an uncoupled entry, they can definitely finish 1-2; speedball with turf rail out 24 feet.
Sleep Tight - Ran better than looked in the Sunshine Millions; class relief will help, sits and makes one run.
Long Shot - See N Win
Race 6 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $53,000, Allowance, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
U R All That I Am - Lost all chance at the start of the Sunshine Millions; huge rider switch to Joel Rosario.
Witty - She may be the most talented filly in the field, but has been away 9-months; time to beat the chalk is right now.
Long Shot - Made for Magic
Race 7 - 1 mile (turf, rail at 24 feet), Purse $48,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
Kristen's Lil Lady - Second time out for trainer Tim Yakteen; too little, too late in last, value pick at 12/1 odds.
Samantha's Rule - Tepid chalk in the hardest race on the card; flattered in last two chasing next out winners.
Long Shot - Always in Style
Race 8 - 1 mile, Purse $19,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 3-year-olds
Press the Point - Like the rail post at a mile; Paul Aguirre adds blinkers on, expect a much improved effort.
Led Advantage - Tepid chalk in a harder than looks race; been well bet in all three starts without winning.
Long Shot - Notwithstanding
Best Bet - Tamerin (race 5)
Santa Anita Monday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 20/7/$4.40; Long Shots, 9/1/$9.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.20
Santa Anita Totals - 574/143/$905.80; Long Shots, 287/44/$466.60; Best Bets, 35/14/$64.80
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY - #10 Bon Marie (8/5) in race 9 at Gulfstream Park. For scoring purposes, we'll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Monday, Gator Prowl won at Laurel Park paying $5.00 to win, $3.00 to place and $2.20 to show. Stats - 35/24/$176.70
