TODAY AT HOLLYWOOD PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 12:30 p.m.
Race 1 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $15,000, Maiden claiming $32,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
The Great Atlantic - Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; like the turn back in distance.
Saturn Moon - Logical chalk is strictly the one to beat; 5-of-8 in the money, but shows no killer instinct.
Long Shot - Musical Grace
Race 2 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
Black Magic Mama - Big rider switch to Joel Rosario for the money shot; she needs to be ridden with patience.
Living Our Dream - Expect a rail skimming ride under Rafael Bejarano; he likes to take them off the pace.
Long Shot - Saint Cindy
Race 3 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $38,000, Allowance, Cal-breds, 2-year-olds
Caracortado - Proved he could win coming from off the pace; flattered when Cardiff Giant won next out.
Evening Jewel - Gutsy MSW win when things didn't go his way; will need help on the front end to set him up.
Long Shot - Tribal Face
Race 4 - 1 1/16th miles, Purse $12,000, Claiming $10,000, 3-year-olds and up
Orientation Hall - Claimed by former Bob Baffert aide Jim Barnes; tactical speed and value at 6/1.
Lainies Lion - Tepid chalk in a wide open race; came back from a year hiatus with a solid effort.
Long Shot - Changing
Race 5 - 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $36,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Brace Yourselves - Outran his 39/1 debut odds with a solid third; improves one step and he can win.
Kuro - Was flattered when both Conveyance and Brady Blue Eyes won next out; we call that a key race.
Long Shot - Ivory Fudge
Race 6 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $42,000, Optional claiming $62,500, 3-year-olds and up
Art Currency - Like the rider switch to Joel Rosario; was flattered when Pleasure to Ride just won.
Becrux - Old timer ran a decent third last time; winless this year, he is definitely sliding down in class.
Long Shot - Great Siege
Race 7 - 6 furlongs, Purse $16,000, Claiming $25,000, 3-year-olds and up
Major Smoke - Value due to the Paul Aguirre barn; ran well for Joe Talamo in last, capable of improvement.
Malibu Canyon - Tepid chalk in another tough race; big edge is sliding down the claiming ladder for Carla Gaines.
Long Shot - Boyoboy
Race 8 - 6 furlongs, $100,000 Vernon O. Underwood, 3-year-olds and up
Noble Court - BC could serve as a prep for a grade 3 stakes; best closer in a deep, talented field.
Delta Storm - Third start off a 2-month hiatus; good effort trying to run down California Flag in the BC.
Long Shot - Machismo
Race 9 - 1 mile (turf), Purse $38,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
Came Aboard - Was lulled to sleep in last stalking a pedestrian pace; big rider switch to Rafael Bejarano.
Royal Import - Bred top and bottom to adore grass; expect him to keep improving on grass and routes.
Long Shot - Boulder Creek
Best Bet - Caracortado (race 3)
Hollywood Saturday - Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/1/$7.40; Long Shots, 8/2/$20.40; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
